Too much boat for my skills

I agree, Amanda sounds pretty darned resourceful and obviously has quite a few skills. These boats shouldn't be any problem for her.

Have you ever heard this line coming from a spouse or parent, "You're not listening"? Amanda keeps saying this boat isn't for her yet everyone keeps insistiing she can do it. People, she's not comfortable with the boat. She's obviously made up her mind. Sometimes it just isn't a good match. Nuff said.

Amanda,

Look up Robbi or base camp anne. Both of them are gals that single hand, different size boats, different accommodations, but still, single hand.

Peter's right, maybe we aren't listening, or maybe just trying to help "fix" it, or maybe hoping to help save you a financial hit.

Good luck either way.

You people are just great! Your concern, good humor and great suggestions have caused me to alter, somewhat, my intentions. The boat "Pohaku" is still for sale with a very negotiable price tag...however, rather than leaving it parked so as not to put more wear and tear on it, I will continue to use it whenever possible, especially in the winter months, and I will watch for places you folks might be hanging out with your boats so I can meet some of you. You are the cat's meow! (By the way, a fantod was a word my father used to indicate nervousness or anything that might cause one to have a rapid heartbeat).
I am a frequenter of Lake Powell in December. Very cold, very beautiful, very alone...Once I went with a friend on my pontoon boat. There was only one other boat in 3 days...this time I'll take the C-Dory...anyone interested?
Amanda

Amanda, glad to see you're thinking about things now. I don't know of any "groups" that go to Powell in Dec, there may be some individuals. I do know that if we lived closer we'd be there sometime!

There is a regular gathering in Sept each year, pictures of this year's gathering are HERE. I'm sure you'd find lots of things you'd enjoy about a CBGT and I know you'd be welcomed!

"Fantod"- I had never heard it before, but I looked it up and it's a real word! How about that? To the problem at hand, sell the winch, keep the boat.. Now, what's next?.....

Amanda,
Steve on "hooked on Powell" now owns the C Dory25 I owned. He keeps it in the water at Waheep Marina and frequently boats in the winter as you do. Give him a e-mail or PM. He is a great guy and good resource on Powell.

Thanks for the new to me vocabulary word, after all these years I thought that when I went on my first date with a high school classmate, I was just "scared shxxless" when her father came to the door and said, "yes, may I help you"....to which I replied, "is Sandy there"...to which he paused and replied..."she just left with another guy".

So, I guess back then with my rapid heart rate, nervousness, etc. I am relieved to know that I was only experiencing a "fantod".

(By the way, Sandy was there and rushed to the door as I was walking back to my car, chastising her dad for giving me a bad time. We still are good friends and see each other at high school class reunions.)

Amanda, I've been following this thread and wish you the best in whatever decision you come up with. We enjoy our 22' cruiser and have experienced many good times on it. Like many others there have been some anxious moments e.g. in docking situations with winds, tides, currents etc. but the strength/solidness of the hull has survived unscathed in the occasional small bump "in the road"....(so to speak).

shxxless. Hmmm. Fantod, that I understood (after her explanation). shxxless isn't in the dictionary though... Amazingly enough though, it got 122 "hits" on Google....

Tom, I dated twins in high school one in the fall the other in the spring. My mom was totally confused.. ..but sure didn't bother me....

Guess we're not helping Amanda much by straying off topic but she started it with bringing up "fantad".

( I guess in order to stay on topic I should make some comment about C-Dory's, so I'll only say that Sandy's dad did not have a C-Dory...in fact he didn't even have a boat.... )

Amanda,

Haven't been looking at the site much the last week or so. I'm supposed to be retired but have been retained to complete some contract negotiations on a "part time basis" that is proving to be indistinguishable from pre-"retirement." Soon to embark on full-time retirement however, so enough of THAT ! !

I am, indeed, the proud new owner of Bob & Marie Austin's Frequent Sea (CD25) and over the last year have come to love this little boat even more than the day they delivered it to us.

I'm not going to weigh in on any advice or critique of your opinion of your new boat or pending decision of its disposition. Your opinion is yours. Your decision is yours.

However, I will extend the offer to meet you at Lake Powell if we can coordinate calendars to discuss our boats, pros & cons, how we each address the challenges of handling with or without crew to assist, etc. I'm on the lake on my own much more often than with the Admiral (will retirement clear the calendar conflicts?) and find Frequent Sea more manageable and forgiving than other cruisers that offer similar amenities.

Regardless of your decision regarding your C-Dory, any time spent on Lake Powell is an adventure and always worthwhile. Drop me a PM or e-mail if you want to hit the lake, we'll see if we can coordinate.

That said, Frequent Sea is not in our slip and hasn't been since Labor Day. We found a problem with water intrusion into the transom via faulty swim step installation. She's been in the boat yard drying out all summer but I hope to be back on the lake soon. As you noted in an earlier post, now is the time for Powell. As one of my dock neighbors put it, "the only wake you will see is like that one over there," pointing to a couple of ducks easing up for their sundowner handouts!
