Does anyone have any experience with a Tohatsu TLDI direct injected 2-stroke outboards from 40 to 115 HP? They claim to have extrememly smooth idle and low speed operation. They also have user adjustable trolling speeds of 700, 800, and 900 rpm by pushing in on the key. In addition they are 3 star emission compliant and claim to have excellent fuel economy.

rrusso, do a search on "tohatsu" and have them displayed as "posts" instead of "topics". There are 108 of them on this site, you may find what you are looking for.

I have a new 40 HP on a 17' fishing skiff. It is the quietest, cleanest, most economical outboard I have ever owned. Also, it is somewhat lighter than a 4-stroke would be. In a smaller boat especially, I think the 2-stroke power curve works better - quick hole shot, and low end torque. The motor seems well-designed, and I think it will be very reliable. You know that it is a Nissan with a different paint job. The base remote control motor included a tach & trim and tilt with built-in electronic diagnostics. Good luck!

The Tohatsu line makes Nissan and,Mercury small motors and maybe even Yamaha. Most are made in China with different paint and decals . Sometimes they have little changes with different warranties. Mike has the 8hp Nissan, he is very happy with it and the price was good .The Nissan has better resale value, because of brand recognition ,same motor.
