tint or no tint?

I do not see any boat pics with tinted windows. I am thinking about tinting mine. Any suggestions.

Since boats are frequently used at night in unlighted or poorly lighted waters I would think that tinting is a bad idea.

Seems to me that one of the reasons for tinted windows on a car is that you aren't allowed by law to put up curtains or blinds, which you can do on a boat. Hence, fewer tinted boats?

I could see doing it if I boated in hot sunny climates all the time. However, I wonder if the darker windows might actually heat the cabin even more?

My boat, bought used in 1998, came with tinted windows done professionally: lightly tinted on the front, heavily (limo) tinted on the side and to the rear.

I've never regretted having them tinted, and they do afford a useful amount of privacy, although at night a well lighted interior is still quite visible from the outside.

The darkening is very restful on a bright sunlit day, and I would do it again if I were to puirchase a new boat. I like iot a lot!

One might think that the tinting plastic material would scratch easily, but I'm careful when washing the window interiors where the tinted material lies.

If you do it, try a window or two to see how you do, getting an exact fit and eliminating bubbles are harder than most folks imagine. I did it on one window that had to be replaced, and would have it professionally done if installing tinting on all windows at once.

The trick to tinting windows is to spray the window with soapy water, then apply the tint. You squeegee sp? all the water and bubbles out. Then use a real sharp razor blade to trim it. It's still not what I would call easy but it is doable.

I have factory tinted glass on my little tug. I was told one or two
were built with tinted front glass. No glare like you find in a clear
window. I did not know I had anything different till I broke one and
had to have Sea Glaze make me one. Perhaps Sea Glaze makes a
conversion window for the CD22 where you use your frames over.
A good thing I think. Bob Heselberg Eatonville Wa

We had tinting done on our CD-25 when we bought it in July, after seeing another with it. We had it done all around, but promptly removed the film from the fronts (not a real easy job). It's bright and hot here much of the year, we like it. Might feel a little impaired, vision-wise, at the helm with the side window closed when it gets cooler.

I had the window tinting guy out today. He is going to apply tint that changes from dark in the day time to clear at nite. Like classes do. Charleston in summer is no joke. With 95% humity and temps in the 100's the sweat pours just going to get the morning paper. thanks for the post. tint is twice as much as regular tint. that's the way the boat floats.
