There was/is no sinister plot here.....

This is the last thing I want to say about this because I am as upset about the whole situation as the man on Ebay is. If I had wanted to conjure some sort of sinister plot to do this person wrong I would have done something so simple as have my wife or another family member bid it up on her account. Nothing sinister was plotted or planned to do anyone wrong - I learned a tough lesson today about the pulling an auction business and I am owning up to it as best I can. I told the gentleman in every way that I understand the way he feels (I would likely feel the same way) and the only way he would feel any different is if he could have seen me frantically trying to stop it happening in the first place... I contacted Ebay FIRST, Paypal second and the gentleman immediately thereafter and had a father's Day dinner in the middle and then headed back on the road for business... Anybody here ever make a big mistake? and had to own up to it? Further - I knew immediately what kind of feedback to expect in this situation and well before that even hit I left the gentleman positive feedback on the transaction and noted basically that I had screwed up. If C-Brats has a place to hang me and begin hurdling stones - let me know where - I likely deserve it here...

Hey Mediaman, you do not have the market cornered on mistakes. At 50 years old I can honestly say I sometimes shake my head in disgust when I think about the mistakes I have made throughout my life.

Hope nobody gets too upset when I say do not worry about it. Life goes on my friend. That is why we own C-Dory's!

Al - Thanks. Even my wife is torqued at me that I screwed up something so simple as an Ebay auction. It is hard to do, but somehow I figured out how to do it...

Wow... can we all just have a group hug now???

Am I the only one who is wondering if the guy who bought the boat locally is the same guy with the highest bid??? Humm..

Man.. I am glad I have never screwed up in my life.... It took me, my family....and MANY...MANY hours from my wife and friends to make me as perfect as I am today.

Glad you sold your boat.

Glad we should have a new C-Brat soon.

Wish you had joined us earlier in your boat ownership...and I feel sure that "WE" in the C-Brats would have known your boat... and could have "helped" .....shall I say....."guide" someone we knew who had been looking for a boat like yours to you. I have bought 3 C-Dory boats now... all from and thru folks in our "owners group(s)".... We know what C-Dory boats bring....we all more than likely have a friend or two who also wants to be a C-Dory owner... I know of 3 other C-Dory boats (not mine) that have been "hooked up" thru myself and this site.

We are a happy....very opinionated group of old salts (some just older than others... ) who love our boats and their folks.

Now having said all that..... I got a garage full of ....stuff.... that I too have thought about selling.... and all my neighbors just buy junk on ebay... so I too am interested in learning how to do it... sell on ebay I mean...and if any of yall out there can help...send me a PM or email...

Yard Sales are illegal in my neighborhood.....but I have slipped in two "garage" sales.... with a little bleed over into the kitchen area....and NOTHING in the yard or driveway... I like to follow the rules. and....the neighborhood association has stopped writing me letters when I bust the 24 hours rule for having my boat in the driveway.... I sometimes would go 36 to 48 hours to let things dry out a bit prior to putting back in the cushions...and/or to wait for a friend to join me bringing her back to the lake. .... I did respond and show them that I did understand our codes...and the TRUE INTENT of our codes was to keep all us Alabama folks from putting our washer and dryers, old cars and trucks...and our Talladega RV specials "stored" in our front yards and driveways. ...and at the same time...I had about 10 other neighbors who loved my boat(s)...and would gladly allow me to leave it in their driveway for 23 hours at a time....which meant by our rules....(and I do agree with them)... that I could just keep moving the boat from driveway to driveway...for eternity....if WE so choose to do.... SO... they simply get over my little, about twice a year "BOAT DETAIL DAY"... in which it stays right where she sits....for a few hours past the 24 hour mark.

Man I will be glad when C-Byrd is ready...as will most of you who read this site...

Byrdman....in his last days of being "C-Dory-less"...

Well that's it. I've crossed Alabama off places to live.

Thanks for the post Byrdman, you reminded why I moved to Alaska! I feel for you and all those who face such intense oversight!

Let's see, there are four boats out in front of my house, in the driveway, next to the toy shed, etc. There is another one right smack dab next to the front door in plain sight of everyone. At any given time there is at least one dog or cat from the neighborhood "trespassing" on our property, deer eating the roses, and an eagle or two out hunting for those smaller cats and dogs. We get ravens ripping into the trash and spreading it out to attract the brown bears that hang out in the woods right behind us. As I look out over the rippled water crashing into numerous small islands, humpback flukes, sea lions, sea otters, puffins and other creatures going about their everyday lives I can see the neighbors 200 odd horse Yamaha just waiting for his next skiff casually sitting in the weeds that are now close to four feet high. There is that old Ford truck just waiting till he finds that starter somewhere in town. Next to that is an old King trailer for some odd boat he had years go, wonder if it will rust before the old home made trailer that the other neighbor has?

As to garage sales, well that's kinda of our social gathering up here! When you live on a small island with no "big box" stores with greeters at the door, garage sales are what we do when we need something cheap and toss-able. Neighbor having a garage sale? Hey great! Here's some stuff we need to get rid of, plus then we can just hang out and yack with friends we have not seen in a week.

What we don't have much if is lawyers and do-gooders trying to force their fees and views down our throats. Heck, need venison? Come on over to our place with a bow and arrow and you can take one of those bucks mucnhing on my wife's plants, just so long as you share!

For those who dislike the insane rules, regulations, traffic, crime and "politically correct" crap that have overcome the lower 48, there are so many great places up here you could lose yourself in. Want to garage sale yourself to death? Want to park a 1948 dumptruck in your front yard and let 30 foot trees grow in it? Welcome to the neighborhood! Bet you're a great addition! Just remember, winter lasts 11 months!

As to those who find stepping in dog manure a legal issue that requires immediate police action, you'll hate it here! Dog poop happens!

I know, the big question is, does all this affect home prices? HECK NO! You'll pay twice as much for half the house you'll find anywhere else! Doesn't matter what is parked next door!

WHY?

Because so many people want to move up here and get away from that mess down South!

Mediaman, I'm sure you didn't mean to piss anyone off. Sorry if it becomes a legal matter. Sad that making a mistake has become such a huge issue! Heck, could be worse, your dog could have pooped on the neighbor's lawn while you were having a garage sale to earn cash to pay for a new boat to park in the driveway!

Chivita: Well... my uncle did not have a 48 dump truck...but he did have an old beat up stationwagon..... that he had "starter exotic tommatow plants" growing in the back end of....that I helped him deliver one hot July afternoon back in the 60s.... It was not till years later that I found out why my mother got so pissed at him after I told her about delivery day... I was only about 6 years old then... and thought then they really were neat tommatow plants. He did have a great garden... and he did buy me a new pair of red ball jet tenis shoes after delivery....and...let me have a few swigs of that tall neck PBR too... I thought it was a great day. Beat the hell out of cutting the yards for shoe money.
