The Nashville Skyline Cumberland & Tennessee Rivers Crui

Colby,
Our analysis shows a driving distance of 388 miles via Highway 64/24. Most of that is Freeway driving, and should be fast (as fast as we run--which is 55 to 57.).
We are familiar with this route, since it is part of the trip from our home to our farm in Illinois.

We do have an advantage of two drivers, but we stop every 2 hours to switch drivers, inspect the rig, and do temp checks on the wheel bearings. If we get underway by 9 AM. We should be in Granville Marina by about 5 PM (8 hours). Launch should be quick. We may try and be underway by 8.

I'm showing 405 miles, which is fairly close to the 388. I may have to make a stop at STL to drop Rosanne off for her to fly back home. Unless we find a C-Brat at the gathering that lives in our neck of the woods that she can ride home with. I plan 15 minute stops every 2 hours, but still manage to take an hour or two longer during the day. Probably longer stops or more frequent. Yesterday I drove 470 miles, and left at 8am stopping for the night around 6p. (10 hours, using my Wisconsin time. lol). Some days just take me longer...lol. While I drive at 65mph, my average day works out to about 50 mph. So I plan 10 hours for a 500 mile day, and that works out pretty well.) I may take a look at that marina planned for the first night along the trip. All things to do later. Today I plan to get to my brothers house south of Seattle and get the boat cleaned back up for the boating planned in the next 6 weeks! :D Colby

Jim and Kathy, thank you over and over for all the work you are doing. It is a big adventure and we are extremely grateful for your efforts. We are going to take the truck to the fishing guides location on Sunday the 9th.

Please send me the itinerary details to: jkpurvis@gmail.com

We are very excited about this trip and anxious to get started. John & Kitty.

Wow Bob and Marie.

Good on you and your stamina to go the additional 185 NM up the Tennessee from Chattanooga to Knoxville! I got pooped out by the time I saw us getting to Chattanooga. Very inspiring.

Sure beats a 3500 mile passage across an ocean at 6 knots! We will probably poke along that last few miles. Let Marie cast a few minnows etc...

I've done both the Cumberland and the Tennessee in 2016-2017 and have both of the guide books that Jerry Hay sells. I seem to have maybe already given away the Tennessee one ( cruise 2016) but have 2 of the Cumberland ,one from 2012 ( a cruise that fell thru) and other from 2016 (cruise that I made) and would be glad to send to a intended cruiser. I'm planning a cruise on the Erie and cross at Oswego into Canada and then a loop on the Rideau ,down the Ottwa ,down the St.Lawerence to Sorel, up the Richelieu back into the USA ,across Lake Chamberlain into the Champlain canal and back across the Erie to my starting point in early July. Any help on the Tennessee - Cumberland I can help with give me a shout. Both (rivers)are well marked and I also have a 2015 Quimbys that I'd be glad to offer. Kinda think, although I had charts, your on board electronics are enough. I've got Garmin and Radar and spent for charts but didn't really use them! Happy Cruisin !

Jim, I plan to use the guides parking. Will be there Sunday and ready to go early Mon. That will be along day to start the cruise. GREAT work!! Please send me the the the float plan to drrlvk@charter.net I am still computer illiterate without any grand kids to educate me. Thanks Lew

Jim

Thanks for your kind offer of the charts. I have already purchased the guides for both the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers.

Your Erie Cannal cruise sounds great. I will be interested in reading about that trip.

Best,
Jim

Will this work with just an Ipad? or do you need a mac also ? I could not sign in with ipad at all would not accept my user name or password ? So hopefully someone has tried with an ipad and can enlighten me on how it works . Usually i have to pray to the Apple gods and a few good words and can figure it out ? Jim

Well, you could be asking one of several questions. So, I'll show my ignorance and answer those I think of.

1. If you're asking if OpenCpn can run on an Ipad the answer is probably NO. It will run on an MAC (free) or an Android tablet (not free.)

2. If you're asking if an Ipad can download the river maps, well YES. They are only digital files and I haven't found a tablet that can't. Unfortunately, I've never used an Ipad, so find your grandson.

3. If you're asking if there is a navigation program that will run on your Ipad, I don't know but others will chime in.

4. If you're asking something totally unrelated, I pass and apologize.

Boris
