Subject: Fwd: The eagle dives for his dinner - and swam, too!

This footage was taken at Mallard Lakes subdivision in Baton Rouge. Someone had shot a nutria, and it was floating dead in the water. This eagle does not stop until he's retrieved his meal.

Good morning from Iowa,

I have received this Eagle swimming video from several directions.

Yes, Connie and I did witness an Eagle in the water episode.

Once north of the Guttenberg Dam #10, we watched as an adult Eagle (white head and tail) was either chasing or herding an immature Eagle (no white head and tail, all brown) across the channel in front of us.

They were flying just a few feet above the water when the young one, apparently in an effort to get away collided with the adult flying directly above.

The young bird hit the water with a big splash, we stopped the boat and watched from a distance, not wanting to get too close and at the same time not exactly knowing what was going to happen next.

We did not have a landing net on board and had no idea what we were going to do or could do, but we were not going to let this young eagle drown with out some efforts on our part.

The young Eagle, was laying in the water with it’s wings out stretched, hesitated for a few seconds, obviously shaken, then started “wing walking”, one wing after the other, making it’s way toward shore.

The older mature eagle was perched in a nearby tree, quietly watching the scene unfold.

The young eagle methodically “wing walked” , one wing after the other to shore, got out of the water, stood there for a moment, shook and flew off toward the adult eagle who also took flight and the two disappeared into the trees.

Sorry guys, did not make this story up nor any other subject that I write about, just found it interesting and assumed that others would also.

For those that have to have absolute proof and an observation is not enough, please be advised that this incident was not scientifically documented, I did not contact the Department of Natural Resources and file a lengthy report, I did not think that it needed any engineering study or point of impact reconstruction either but could be wrong about that, too late now, don’t want to sell anyone anything or something nor want to buy any Florida property or a bridge either, it’s just something we had the privilege to witness and wanted to share.

Have another great day in paradise.

Best regards,

Ron Fisher
