The Cruising Adventures of Wild Blue and crew...

Jim, thanks for the great pix and trip back into memory lane. I grew up, sort of, up there, and love Victoria. Hope your weekend is nice, and you get to see some real PNW Fall --- colors and all.

I get it, Merv. Some of us never really grow up... sort of. I believe the quote is: we never really "grow up," we just learn how to behave better in public.

We have two, Jim, both rescues. The older male "Truman" is not a "sweet" cat. Never has been. He dislikes people and only wants things on his terms. He is ornery, demanding, neurotic and has scratched the g-kids on more than one occasion. Last time I though my son was gonna kill him. He's constantly jumping up on the counters, will eat anything left out...truth be told, he's a PIA.

The younger female "Stella" is very sweet. She is loving, mellow, great w/ the g-kids and calm. When we got her the older cat was the king...now times have changed, his health is deteriorating and he is no longer "the man".

We've only ever had one cat at a time in the family. And the house sure seems empty in those "in between" times. All three cats that have been a part of our family have been completely different in personality... but, we've been fortunate that they've all been sweet. Our daughter picked the first one, the second one (Molly) picked me, and Joan picked little Izzy (a shelter rescue).

I'm still trying to communicate with Izzy the way I did with Molly. It's a learning process, I guess... and I'm still learning.

My sister had an evil cat. Pretty sure I wouldn't/couldn't put up with that. I never thought I was a "cat person" until we got that first one when our daughter was 10 years old; that sweet cat lived almost 22 years. And absolutely worked her way into all our hearts. I'm pretty sure we started motorhoming so the cat could come with us. Works that way with the boats, too.

All our cats have traveled with us. Izzy is now up to 27 states, two provinces of Canada, and still counting. Not quite as well-traveled as the first two... yet.

Have you tried the cat(s) on the boat?

Best wishes,
Jim

PS Merv - that link sure was fun!

Jim, You got it. Well, sort of. I've heard that in my case some folks think it applies. On the other side, I was there when I learned to love the water, row and watch the tides. I did a little growing up after I left there, but there is still plenty of kid left.

I think it's important to have "plenty of kid left." Joan and I had supper years ago with a couple who were liveaboards. They had traveled to South America and all through the Caribbean. Their only regret: it was late in life when they started this lifestyle, and they had lost their "sense of wonder"... not a lot that impressed them. I remember afterwards thinking how sad - to see and experience all those places and not be in wonder about it. I guess I'm kid enough to still be impressed by a sunset, fall colors, a warm beach, magnificent animals, wind and water sculpted landscapes, great architecture, a good joke, pleasant conversation, a tasty meal, etc, etc.

Jim, Joan,

Love the pictures of your haul-out and just sorry you are leaving us and taking away the sunshine you brought for so many months. Hope all goes well with your travels and maybe we see y'all next year. You know you are welcome to repeat the exercise.

stay safe,

M & K

HI Jim and Joan, Sorry to tell you that we had to put our 6-1/2 year old Erie Canal Swimmer, Mr Grey down last Saturday. He had a UTI and the operation may have killed him and caused a lot of pain.
The good news is we have adopted a 2 year old female. She is a Maine Coon mix. She is very friendly and good looking. Time will tell how well she likes our traveling life style.

Aww, Fred and Pat, my sincere condolences. How well many of us know that loss. These furry family members definitely leave paw prints on our hearts.

I am not trying to speak for you, but I know that one furry kid doesn't replace another... they do, however, provide the pathway. Rest in peace, Mr. Grey.

And welcome aboard to the new Maine Coon young lady. Maine Coons are a beautiful breed. We are often asked if little Izzy is a Maine Coon, because of her long fur. No, she is a little girl and her fur is more fuzzy. The best thing I can hope for you is your new girl is as good a traveler as Izzy.

Please know that our thoughts are with you. Like our Molly, sometimes they are taken way too soon, but know that you gave Mr. Grey that family experience that all the furry kids deserve.

We will raise a glass to Mr. Grey tonight... and hold Izzy just a bit tighter.

Our sympathies,
Jim & Joan (and Izzy)

Jim, it was great to finally meet you and Joan in Anacortes in May.

Sorry to miss you this time. I was hoping to be back in Anacortes before you two left. I am finally returning Saturday to attend Jocylyn and Ray's farewell gathering for Willie and Herb. (I've been spending lots of time clearing out my home and garage.)

Happy travels, and thanks for the Adventures blog and great photos!
