The Cruising Adventures of Wild Blue and crew...

Jim, it's raining/cold/miserable here in the NW. How about sending us some of the sunshine in those photos!!!! Looks like you had a great time. Hopefully Izzy is back to normal after the annual trip to the vet!

Izzy's back to her old self... she was just moving a bit slow the one day. I'd send you some warmth if I could - everyone should get to experience barefoot boating in January. I know I said I'd not bombard the forum with dolphin shots, but today was pretty darn amazing...

That shot above was just outside the jetties, in the Gulf - as calm as I've ever seen it.

And then the hightlight of the day: a momma and baby swimming by the boat...

Relaxing at the end of the day...

Jim,

After a brief respite of temps to 50 on Sunday, here in northern Ohio we are headed back to the single digits and it started snowing tonight. Feel free to "bombard away" with more pictures of warmth and dolphins!

Jim,

I'm just getting home from work, it's 44 marks above the 0 and I didn't even wear a coat again today. I decided to take a short walk, before bedtime, so enjoyed watching the stars and the ring around the moon. Then I came in and thought I'd check the Brat site. Wouldn't you know it, Dolphins :D Sure do enjoy those photo's, the clear blue water, (and I suppose it is warm too), the bright colors and the friendly mammals.

Thanks for sharing,

Harvey

Just settling in to watch the Superbowl. It's been a spectacular day here... time out and about on Wild Blue, sunny skies, temps in the mid-70s. It's a far cry from my favorite of all time Superbowl days - with the crew of Discovery (our new-at-the-time friends, Brent and Dixie), trying to stay warm in the Florida Keys, and going to the Overseas Bar... sandwiched in like sardines, food buffett set up on the pool table, holding plates in our laps, barely able to hear the game because of the noise in bar. And we aren't sittin'-in-a-bar folks. But, we did win the booze basket that night. 8)

That was our first trip east with Wild Blue. Just reminiscing. It's a lot quieter here in the house with just the two of us (and a cat, of course). Joan made a bunch of "football food". Satellite TV. The door is open and I'm in shorts and a t-shirt. Not a bad way to spend "game day."

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Hi Herb; PM sent. Hope your travels are going well.

No betting in our house this game - we're both cheering for the Saints, too. Halftime coming up... I hope there isn't a wardrobe malfunction with The Who. :disgust

Best wishes,
Jim

On a mooring ball in the Naples City Dock marina. Pleasant night, but cool, even for us northerners. Plan on going up to Ft. Myers Beach later this week then back to our home base at Mangrove Marina in Tavernier FL. After the Nautical Flea Market at Founders Park, Islamorada, we'll head to Marathon & Key West. Hope to see other C-Dory's along the way

Hey Andy and Molly,

We enjoyed the flea market when we were down there. Lots of vendors. You may want to post separately on the main forum to get more exposure and possibly connect with other FL cruisers. That's how we wound up meeting Brent and Dixie.

Have you met Mike and/or Jim there in Naples?

Have fun in the Keys!

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Great Game Outcome but not as warm here...had shirt and shorts on, but it was a long sleve shirt.

Andy is smarter then you think Jim...because he posted in the WB Thread knowing that everone reads this thread and have it on their email notifier, but not everyone reads the recent topics on the front page.

I am sure we will meet up soon, because they can run..but they can't hide from the doggie boat.

Welcome Andy and Molly How long will you be in Naples If you guys want we can maybe meet up Jim on Jennykatz ,Mike on papillion

pm me or call 239-269-9537

Hi, Jim

We went to a Super Bowl party over on "the island" ( Port Aransas ) at a condo of some friends. Also winter Texans, from Erie, Pa. We were reminiscing about past super bowl parties, and the Overseas Bar and Grill came up. That was also our most memorable super bowl night. We hope to get down to Pt Isabel next month and visit our friends. It's cloudy here in Rockport today, but in the low 70's. Dixie is gone to Line Dancing class over in Port Aransas, so I guess I'll have to go fishing. Its a tough job, but somebody has to do it. I manage to get on the water for 3 or 4 hours, almost every day. Really enjoying the 16' Skiff.

Brent

Hi Brent,

We are looking forward to seeing you two. Who knew the "good ol' days" were only 3 years ago? And on another thread I mentioned buying what you want vs what you need. You know how to buy the right boat for the use! Glad you're enjoying the skiff.

Best wishes,
Jim

"Shortly after that, a Coast Guard small boat ran by us, then made a sharp u-turn. Yep, we're about to be boarded. Leonard told me that he had never been stopped by the Coast Guard before. It must be me... I must look suspicious."

Yep Jim, It is that magnetic personality. Probably showed up on their radar, or the warm, fun loving demeanor.... that came through on the CG FLIR :wink

Nice comparison of the CD 25 and the R-25. And I can see it now, Jim on the dock, whislin' :note :note "Here boatie boat, Here boatie boat", waving towards the dock, and the crewless Ranger sidles up to the dock and all the yachties looking on, bug eyed, "How'd he do that?"

Smiles,

Must be my child-like nature, Harvey... it would be the "biggest remote control boat in the pond." Of course, it would be my luck that just as I'm executing a pirouette with opposite thrusters in the middle of the canal, the boat would get out of range of the remote!

Kinda like the time I beached our first sailboat and hopped off the bow. I walked down the shore a ways to get a photo and a gust of wind pushed the boat off. As the boat slowly drifted backwards, I took another photo... then said, "Oh-oh." I put the camera down and went for a swim. It took me a while to catch up to the boat. When I climbed up the swim ladder, someone who shall go unnamed said, "That wasn't fun." I was kinda thinking the same thing... with the addition of: "note to self - teach her how to start the motor. Use the anchor when beaching - especially if you get off the boat." Learning curve.

I used to really enjoy running the trimaran with the remote while sitting in one of the front nets.* Nice view.

Best wishes,
Jim

* Closed course with a professional driver. Do not try this at home.

Yep Jim, we had the same F-31 tri, you brought a smile to my face. It's almost an out-of-body experience riding up there in the forward nets, hanging 6-12" off the water, going 12-15 knots, and super quiet. Like gliding in a sailplane I guess, you just don't want it to stop.

Thanks for the reminder!

Ah yes, Jim. I remember the remote, not quite like yours though. On a 15 Monty, standing in the bow pulpit, the iron jenny at all ahead slow, the sails furled, the swingkeel up, rudder at half depth, the Admirable at the helm and hand signals to indicate direction as we crept up the "Chute" trying to avoid the bottom, sides and detection by wildlife, working our way between Priest Lake and the "Upper" lake.

Oh the lessons we have learned.
