THE APP Thread

This thread is for posting your favorite APP. Please say where you got it, how much it cost (if not free) and what phone/operating system it is for.

(Told you any bumbling Brat could do this, doesn't take a head nerd... )

There are several good Apps already posted in the IPhone thread. Feel free to quote them and post here!

My Droid upgraded to Froyo 2.2 a day or so ago and I find out now that my Swype quit working. Swype is actually a beta and you have to register at Swype.com to receive it. So since I had already registered from before...I forgot, luckily I had my password written down and I downloaded the version that works with Froyo. Oh Joy my Swype is back...grins. Sorry for the misinformation earlier about searching apps for Swype, it does not work. You have to get the beta.

Herb, my marketplace on the Droid X can't find any version of Swype...

Cute apps: (all from the "marketplace" on Droid menu and free)

TALKING TOM

AIR HORN

Very neat app:

GOOGLE SKY MAP

I use RadarNow from the Android Market on a daily basis. Free.

"Where" helps me find the best local gas price. Also free.

The talk to text feature is another plus on the Droid.

Navionics marine charts on the Droid and iPad.

"white Noise" on both for relaxing water sounds. Pandora Radio. The Weather Channel and Weather Bug. Google Maps.

ShopSavvy to check prices on big ticket items.

I use the CardioTrainer app regularly. When I do long runs or bike rides, I put the phone in a ziploc bag and the app tracks my speed and distance using the built in GPS. It will also call out the distance and pace at defined intervals which is quite nice AND (it I let it) it will report my location to a web site that is accessible to those who know the password. Hence Joyce can see where I'm at if I'm late back from a run or ride. It's a great APP for the exercise nuts.

I've also used Calorie Counter - an app from Fat Secret. With it I can easily track calories. You can enter a food via text, select a food from a huge but well organized list or you can scan a barcode on the item you are planning to eat. You can also enter exercise info to get a sense of how many calories you have burned. Very useful for those interested in maintaining health or losing weight.

Another favorite app is PDAnet. This allows you to tether your computer using the phone w/o additional charge. The free version lets you do everything but visit HTPPS web sites.

Pandora radio is also a favorite of mine. It's like satellite radio for free.

Road Trip by Darren Stone for vehicle and boat maintenance service logs along with many other useful features.
I like Evernote for local and cloud use.
iFish for fun

I just upgraded to a Droid and it automatically upgraded to 2.2 operating system. I got it specifically to use Navionics and after attempting to download it I'm told it won't run on the new 2.2 system. Anyone else having this problem? I've tried to contact Navionics for info without any luck.

My Droid on 2.2 runs the Navionics apps fine. I had them before it upgraded and they stayed ok. Today they upgraded. Try downloading it again.

I took it back to Verizon tech and they couldn't download it. Sorry for hijacking the thread somewhat but anyone buying a Droid should be aware of this. I guess you were okay if you downloaded before the 2.2 upgrade.
