Test Drive

Can anyone advise on possible test drives for 16 ft cruisers in the NW FL area? I am 6'3" and 245lbs, and am very interested in a 16 ft cruiser for my first C-dory purchase, but a little apprehensive as to whether or not I fit well and can enjoy the little boat.

I'm 6 feet, 190 lbs and I own a C Dory 16 Angler. The interior ergos are the same as a cruiser. I think it could be tight for you. I fit just fine but I always wondered how a bigger guy would fare in the cabin....I guess it depends on what you're able to cope with or your expectations. The 16 is a great boat; IN SO MANY ways. But I'm not sure that interior space for a bigger guy is one of its best qualities.

IDK. Are there any other C Brat 16 owners who are over 6 feet?? CHIME IN please....

I'm afraid its too small and to light. I'm 5' 9" & 140 and with my boat loaded and just me on board i can run 20mph all day with a 50 four stroke. The 16 cruiser with no engine is 975lbs or so check me on the factory spec sheet. I'm in center of the state and if you care to drive this far I'll let you drive mine. I think a 22 would a better fit, roughly 4K Lbs alone and with your weight it would be eaiser for you to trim the boat once you reach planing speed. Any time I have a guest on board the performance slips away. When I have three passengers my top speed is 10 mph. Don't mean to mess up your ideas but I've had my boat 2 and a half years and I've just finished setting it up for distant cruising on the ICW. I use my boat alot and I am very pleased with it. That would be a very good idea....they are a dealer with experience and can show you the difference in the boats.... if you are serious about the 16 you should ride in one and decide if it is big enough for you.... I myself think the 22 is the best way to go... lots of folks that buy the smaller boats later move up to the 22... it is the ideal size if you want to go more than a day... I think the 16 is more of a lake boat...and would scare the heck out of me in open water..

We live in Pensacola, and will be happy to show you a 22 when we get home shortly. A 16 is a small boat for a big person....We had a neighbor who bought one, and then almost immediately upgraded.

We do have pretty good chop in Escambia and Pensacola Bay--ICW OK unless Easterly. The 16 would not be suitable for offshore use in the Pensacola area.
