Tennessee River Adventure March or April 2011

Hello C-Brats

Looking out over the north pasture, raining, cold 40s, expecting snow, light NE wind, just the weather for a true C-Dory owner can appreciate, maby not for Brenda and "Falcon" tucked away in the tractor shed longing for water under her keel.

We are planning our final cruise to the Tennessee River from Pickwick Landing State Park to Knoxville TN. in March or April 2011. We are posting early so that our friends (all C-Dory People) along the way can make plans to join us along the way.

We have cruised the Cumberland, Lake Kentucky, and the Tombigbee.

Poast or send us a PM with phone #.

Keep us posted, we'll do at least part of the trip. April would be better for us.
We cruised from Guntersville to Chattanooga in October, great trip, great scenery.

Bill, glad you and Brenda will be going straight up the Tenn. instead of turning right down the Tenn.-Tom. this trip. It was a pleasure to meet you at Bobby's Fishcamp a few months back. I was headed up the Tenn.-Tom. to deliver a 40' sailboat to a friend. As stated then, I live about mile 285 on the Tenn. just as you head into the mouth of the Elk River. My short Day pier probably will not have enough water to tie up at the house at that time but you can come around our subdivision and use a slip in our marina.
We would love for you to stop over and visit. A guest room would be available at home or power and water are available in the Marina. I would be glad to take you for supplies if needed and may go along up the river if the wife can get off work. ( someone must make the living.)
Give me a call on (256) 318-4608 as your plans firm up. Sounds like your tests went well and glad you are feeling well and ready for another cruise.
Ron

Hi Bill & Brenda,

It is a nice coincidence that you are planning a TN River trip this spring. We have been thinking about a trip in the Chattanooga area over spring break. For us that will be Friday 3/18 to Wednesday 3/23. As usual, with school for Riley and work for Karen and I, our schedule is not very flexible.

Let us know when you firm up your plans. If we are lucky, maybe we can meet up along the way. It's alway fun to cruise with other people.

Take care,

Rob, Karen & Riley

You guys be sure to post the exact dates your going to be in the area. I want to make sure I have my storm shutters in working order.
You always seem to pack a storm when you arrive somewhere.
Sure hope we can catch up on this trip!

Hey Brenda & Bill!
Looks doable to link up mid April somewhere around Pickwick! That is a real pretty cruise you are planning!

I would like to do that trip but I already have previous engagements in March and April. I have penciled in May 18 through the 26 in my calendar to do a cruise on the Tennessee River. Don't know where exactly--still doing my research. The dates in May are flexible. If anyone who cannot make the March or April dates wants to join, please pm or e-mail me. It may be a while before I respond to my e-mails since starting tomorrow I will be out of the Country for two weeks. But I suppose there will be plenty of time to plan a May trip after that.

A beautiful section for a Tenn. River cruise would be from Wheeler State park in Rogersville,Al. Mile 277, to Chattanooga, Tn. Mile 464. I live about mile 285, and would offer a place to launch and leave your rig at my house. Several stops with interesting sites are on this route and Chattanooga a city dock to stay at and walk to aquarium and other spots and well as good eating spots.
A couple of us from this area are trailering to do the Carolina Loop with C-Dorys and will be gone May 17 thru 24 but will be back after that. Give me a call if you have questions or want to discuss this. This trip puts you through the gorge where the river winds back on itself several times between the mountains.

Hello Friends

We retired in 2004, purchased our C-Dory 22, and planned to have unlimited freedom to jump up and go, not so, seems like our studio gave us an excuse not to volenteer.

March seems out for now. We will just take "Falcon" to the lakes or down to Red River at Shreveport, LA. for some on the water time.

April, the first mate out votes the deck hand and April may be warmer weather. Keeping the first mate (Brenda the navigator) happy and on the boat is the objective. So April it is but still no firm date maybe Monday, April 4, 2011 late afternoon at Pickwick, TN. ??

Hi Bill and Brenda-
We're heading West to Texas on the intracoastal at the end of March but wish we could join you. Enjoy the cruise.

Brenda and I cruised the Texas ICW 3/13/2008 - 3-23-2008 from Port Iberia LA to Brownsville TX. Jim Shelton in Port Iberia found a ramp and truck and trailer storage and Jim and Joan, Port Isabel TX met us on the ICW on their boat "Wile Blue" and helped us rent a car for the return trip.

Great vacation on "Falcon" stopping for a while in Galveston TX. Visited the Moody Gardens that has a boat dock on the ICW. I was yelling-ride-em-cowboy and Brenda was ridged holding on for dear life while enduring big waves in Galveston Bay.

Have a good cruise.

The April 4th launch date han been canceled. Some minor health issues with this 75 year old senior has made this necessary.

I know this part of the Tennessee River is most beautiful.

See you later:

Bill and Brenda Russell

Bill: Sorry to hear about any health issues... Myself, Mike, & Jeff were all in the truck the other day and wondered if you were all on track. No big loss in this short delay....particuarly with the winds and rain of late. We are suppose to get a couple of good weather days Saturday and Sunday.

Keep us posted.

FINALLY ..... Drove from Arkansas to Tennessee this morning. Launched today at Pickwick State Park landing. Made a short boat run south just past the Tombigbee inlet. Tied off for the night waiting for Friday and a full day on the water. We plan to run all the way into Knoxville in a few days time. Looking for smooth water and a great time aboard the Falcon. Stay tuned for more posts. If anyone wishes to join us just make a post and we will try to meet you along the way!!!

Bill, looks like a rough weather day on the river today. If by chance you make it as far as mile 285 (entrance to Elk River) and need a stopping place for the night we have an open covered slip in the subdivision marina with water and power. Also I have transpportation if you need a run to town or such. Would be glad to see you again after meeting you at Bobby's fish camp a few months ago on the Tenn/Tom. Will be home tomorrow also if I can be of assistance. Give me a call on cell (256) 318-4608. As you turn into the Elk a large condo will be on your right and my house would be straight ahead with the short day pier at my back yard. We are now under a tornado watch so take on the river.
Ron

Hello

The "Falcon" is tied off in a slip at Marine Max Marina in Chattanooga, TN just 200 yards from the Botanical Gardens and down town.

The tour boat second mate next to us suggested the Big River Restruant for dinner tonight.
