When I saw it on Hylebos, it was definitely near sinking. I guess they were able to keep it afloat long enough for its short trip to its final dry docking.
As Marty says, tempis fugit. When I was dumbstruck by the Kalakala as a kid, the Smith Tower was still several years away from being dethroned as the tallest building in Seattle (maybe on the whole West Coast?), and I-5 was barely a gleam in DDE's eye.
