Teleflex no-feedback, no-work

I have the Teleflex no-feedback cable steer. I can easily push the engine to starboard. This is the same direction the prop torque spins it when I let go of the wheel. When I try to push the engine to port I can't budge it.

If I understand this thing it has a clutch type deal that should hold the engine from turning when one lets go of the wheel while underway. My boat hooks an abrupt right turn every time.

My anti-torque tab is adjusted to the max to counter the torque. But little effect. Is there any adjustment that can be done to the Teleflex? Or is the only solution hydro stearing?

Chris,

It's possible that the helm unit is defective. The helm has two clutch systems that prevent the motor torque from spinning the steering wheel. If one of them is bad, the motor torque will try to spin the wheel in one direction.

One of our members had the Teleflex helm lock up while approaching a dock! Both clutches were bad.

It may be time for a new unit. I purchased a 2003 Century as a salvage boat after the hurricanes. Its helm did the same thing. The mechanism was dammaged when the boat fell off a rack--putting in a new helm took only an hour or so.
