Is anyone in the Puget Sound area volunteering for the Tall Ships Festival this year? Or did anyone in 2005?

I've volunteered to escort ships during the parade, on daily outings, and waterside security. Should be a lot of fun with a chance to get up close and personal with the tall ships.

hello and yes we where there then and will be there this year too, along with the others from tacoma outboard association, also we know the waterside security coordinator who is a member in our club and we will be willing to assist you with any questions you may have. one thing for sure you will have a great time!!!

We will be there from the 3rd to the 6th with waterside security. Its our 1st time but should be a lot of fun. I believe they are still looking for volunteers. Anyone interested send me a pm.

I checked out the Tall ships web site and found the dates they will be in Victoria, Tacoma etc, but nothing about what or where they are in between. Do they get power escorts all the way through the Sound? I can't think I am the only one who would like to get close enough to get a couple of pictures. What kind of security are you providing, at the dock or traveling type?

From my understanding thus far we are providing motor escort during a parade, and also when they do their daily outings for mock battles, etc. I was told that in 2005 the parade was from Quartermaster Harbor to Foss Waterway.

I'm awaiting an email from the organizer for more detail and a meeting date.

Dave from Honey Do List and I both participated in 2005 doing Waterside Security as a Parade Escort, Daily escort and Waterway patrol. I had the then pretty new Laurna Jo in the water the whole week, put about a 60 hours on her. Dave And I did a whole bunch of escorting and had a great time! I will be moored at the Sea Scouts Dock for the entire week of the TS. If anyone is interested in doing waterside stuff with their boat you have to go through www.tallshipstacoma.com to volunteer ..time is getting short so do it soon. Our Club's Rear Commodore is the Security Recruiter for TS. Tell them Dave sent ya . heheheh

this is a picture of the Lady Washington that I took as she was comming thru Deception Pass. Lisbeth,my better half, was a passenger on it along with her 90 year old father. The 16 is a friends and we escorted the ships to Coupeville where the passengers disembarked. was a fun day on the water for all.

The Lady Washington and another Tall Ship were taking tours over the Yaquina Bay bar last weekend. Looked like a lot of fun. They were actually sailing. The other boat, which name I forget, was interesting as well. It was steel, which surprised me.

There are 37 Tall Ships scheduled for the festival July 3- July 7. One of them is a 295 foot USCG sailing ship. Should be quite a sight with all of them in Tacomas Foss waterway. Looks like there will be a number of C-Dorys doing security, very appropriate. Should be a great weekend and as Jim (Laurna Jo) mentioned anyone that would like to join in should let him know as soon as possible.

After the Tall Ships event in Victoria, (June 26-29) the ships will start what is called the Tall Ship Challenge. The first "race" is to Port Angeles and I believe they spend the night there. Then the second race is all or part of the sail to Tacoma. In 2005, the group of boats arrived the afternoon of day before the Tacoma event started. If it is the same this year, the boats will sail into Quartermaster Harbor on July 2nd, where they will spend the night. It was great fun to be with the arriving boats on that afternoon as it was not as crowded, but the boats put on quite a show. I anchored out and spent the night surrounded by wonderful ships. I think that I may do the same this year. Robbi
