Tacoma Marinas

I was hoping to stay at Dock Street this weekend but they do not have parking or a launch. The proximity is perfect for where my wife and I would like to spend our time... can anyone recommend another Marina in Tacoma, ideally with overnight parking for the car/trailer?

Ya know, the funny (stupid) thing about Tacoma being surrounded by water is that there are very few places to launch a boat. There are a couple of sling operators along Foss waterway, but they want a fortune.

I'd recommend launching at Point Defiance, and storing your truck and trailer there. Then motor over to Foss and overnight at the city dock next to the glass museum. Lots of stuff to do (and beer to drink) in that area. There are restrooms and showers available.

We launch at Pt. Defiance launch right by the ferry. There is overnight parking and just a short cruise to Dock Street or Gig Harbor.

I have been doing digging today, and came to that same conclusion. I know the Pt Defiance launch well but have never overnighted there. You think the rigs are relatively safe there, overnight? only car break-in I've ever had was in Tacoma.

The glass museum area is the main area my wife and I like to spend our weekends so Dock St Marina (or thereabouts) is deal for the evening. being our first night sleeping aboard I was hesitant to be more than 50 yards from the vehicle though.

Tacoma does seem have more car break-ins (we moved from the area) but its opportunistic. They'll steal a stereo, smartphone, gift bags left in the vehicle, etc. You'd probably not have any trouble if you make sure there's nothing valuable left in plain sight.

When in really sketchy areas like remote beaches on the rez... I leave it unlocked with nothing valuable inside. Folks can rummage through if they want to without breaking the window.

that's exactly what happened to us. stopped at dinner on our way to a hotel after shopping. broken window, overnight bags, and all shopping taken while we ate for less than 30 minutes. Thanks to insurance, its just a minor pain in the butt, but still.

Narrows Marina has added dock space for a new restaurant and
Overnighting. You are not close to downtown but there is overnight parking for rigs and a launch ramp. The new restaurant, Boathouse 19, is nice. It's located right on the dock. It might work out for you.
Narrows Marina is located on the Tacoma Narrows just south of the Narrows bridges on the east side.

Point Defiance is why we became members of Tacoma Outboard Association. Our own ramp, washdowns, and secure parking with caretakers on site. The location makes it nice that we can go south or north for cruising, and billion dollar views from the club. Plus cruises and events at the club too of course.

OK now that is very interesting. price looks reasonable as well. You guys just had a meeting last night it looks like?

Looks like Laurna Jo on the homepage?

Narrows Marina is very nice, and apparently new. they told me they just reopened a week or so ago. Boathouse 19 is very nice. Service was a tad slow, but we had dinner and lunch the next day there.

the launch at Narrows Marina is a little steep, I wouldn't want to do it a a very low tide. I came in at a +2.99 and opted to wait until about +5 before we dunked her.

The guest moorage was nice and the people were friendly. 24hr camera surveillance and the security walked around all night. I know this because he mistakenly gave me a parking ticket at about 12am, haha. (they apologized and retracted).

thanks for the advice! now to work my way north. Anyone know if you can leave your rig at Coulon for say 2 nights? would love to start at lake washington and return via the freshwater after a salty cruise.

I believe that, yes our 25 was on the revolving website pics.
The meetings are on the 1st and/or the third Thursdays, depending on the season. It is a great club and has a lot of adult and family events all year long.

I met a guy at the Narrows Marina who spoke highly of TOA. He wasn't a member but he said its a good club and definitely worth the price. I hadn't really thought about joining a club initially, but now I will have to give it some consideration! The gated entry is nice, club members leave their tow rigs overnight?

Members leave the rigs overnight, weekends and longer. If over 3-4 days, let the caretakers know and will have you park closer to their house.
We have done it many times. Best thing is go down on a meeting night, early and get a tour of the place.
