Switch from Directv to Comcast xfinity?

Barry, I dont think comcast was a bad company. We just did not need them for anything other then the web. We used them for years. We cut the land line phone 6 years?? ago and have used just our cells.

When we moved to our new house two years ago we had to sign up for Tulalip broadband here on the res. Could not be happier. Its just like comcast, and I hear that it maybe a comcast feed ran thru the tribe, but with local customer service. Always helpful and quick with a answer. They sent some one to the house to test the speed for me once and they spent over two hours figuring it out.

We did not have Comcast service problems, either at the RV Park (TV and internet) or here at Birch Bay (internet only). As far as making you take channels you don't want goes, they are no worse (or better) than the satellite TV companies. Where they ARE bad is their pricing, start you at $29 a month and in six months or a year you are at $60 a month for internet, and it only gets worse (MUCH worse) for TV. Casey, there is no guaranteed $29 a month Comcast internet around here! And no competition. We could live with slower speeds, and CenturyLink does offer a guaranteed $29 a month internet but it is "not available" in Birch Bay even though it is available all around us. Same for Wave Broadband. So Comcast is just about our only option, since we gave up unlimited data on our Verizon plan when we got the new iPhones, and we can't live on 8 GB a month. How sad is that!

Went and researched the cable / internet options available to us at our address and their specials. Brought this to Comcast and they reduced our monthly bill by $36 and upgraded our DVR to the new X1 DVR. They waived the $99 service install fee for the DVR. I will purchase a modem and save an additional $9 per month going forward. For all this, I had to renew our contract by an additional 10 months AND pay a $52 cancellation fee. Over the next 2 years, we will save a few hundred dollars overall.

Sad that they treat new customers better than an existing customer of 13 years. I told them this and probably they relented because they knew that this time I was about to pull the plug.

I am not dissatisfied with Comcast product or customer service. What I dislike about them is their pricing and forced upgrades to expensive packages. I also do not care one bit for their bundling and promotional prices.

My venting is over now and I just list my experience in hopes it helps others to negotiate a better deal with them.

P.S. The folks you want to talk to at Comcast is the retention dept. They have the most authority to discount and offer promotions.

That's the thing with comcast. You have to spend the time jumping through their hoops to talk to a real person. But once you get there you can hammer them down. Threaten them, their friends and family what ever it takes but you can get them down. We dance their dance every two years or so.

And here I thought I was just giving them the Jersey squeeze! Face it, they have me hooked. I waited and waited until the new Shameless season started at 11pm on Showtime a few weeks ago. At about 1055pm the screen shows a message that my free Showtime has expired. What's a guy to do? I called them and it started right up on time for $10/month. Anyway, William H. Macy is worth it....
