swim step install

I am interested in installing a swim step on our 2006 22' cruiser. I'd like to stick to fiberglass with rungs that stow beneath it. If the factory sells them it would be great since the color would match better than a plain white step.

We don't have a kicker yet, but there's a pivoting kicker bracket on the port side. I'd prefer to have the step there and put the kicker on the other side so we don't have to step on the cables when climbing into the boat. I may end up taking the boat to a fiberglass shop to redo the transom cap in glass (no cracking plastic cap), and cover unused holes, i.e. removed kicker bracket.

So does the step attach to the transom with 5200 and hardware? And is the hardware through bolted, or is it screws that only penetrate the core? (I'd do some epoxying of course).

I'm heading to the boat show today after work so maybe I'll get a chance to talk to Triton folks, or Master Marine.

Talk to a dealer for a factory step. I attached ours with bolts and 4200 fast cure. I highly recommend a 3 step ladder because it is WAY easier to climb out of the water. The factory step comes with a 2 step ladder.

I Agree with Rick. We have always had the SS on the port side, because of the cables, and the kicker bracket on Stb. Always thru bolted with big fender washers on the back side. Some steps (not the factory), need a screw into solid glass or epoxy down low.

I removed my swimstep so I could move it for port and install my kicker starboard for the very reason you mentioned; having to step over all the control cables/fuel line was stupid.

The factory swim step was through bolted at the top and lag bolted at the bottom, into the core, and sealed w/ (I assume) 5200. It was also glued to the transom w/ 5200. It did NOT come off easily. There are pics in my album.

Wow, the swim step costs almost half a boat unit -- that's a spicy meatball! That's definitely going to cut into our kicker motor budget!
