Swift Reservoir photos

Nice looking reservoir. And close for a lot of us. Tell us more about the sunning deck. Material, how it is supported, etc. What all are you carrying on the roof and what does it sit on? You have really maximized the boat for cruising.

Your pictures of Swift Reservoir reminded me of trips to Lake McDonald in Glacier when I was young, way back in the early 60s. Open, clean, hardly anybody else around. Is Swift Reservoir always that deserted or were you there on a Tuesday after school started?

The sunning deck is made with cedar 1x4’s. It is made in three parts, 2 halves for the deck and a support leg in the middle. It is hard to explain how it fits together and on the boat. There are no bolts or screws holding it together or on the boat. It is very simple to make and strong, (will support two people) and is quick and easy to put up or take down (takes less than a minute). The entire unit weighs less than 12 lbs., that is not counting the cushion on top.

I will try to take some pictures of it this week end and post in my Boat Projects album. When you see the pictures it will be easy to see how it is built, goes together and works.

On the roof I have two collapsible chairs, a throwable 20” ring buoy, a 1000 watt Yamaha generator and the sunning platform when it is not used. All sit directly on the roof and held on with bungee cords. Actually the sun platform sits on top of the ring buoy. The generator leaves black marks on the roof from the rubber feet but clean off easily with common household cleaners. The total weight up there is
Generator 27 lbs
Chairs 17 lbs
Sun platform 12 lbs
Ring buoy 7 lbs
Total 63 lbs

If you are going to cruise with a 16 you have to maximize it.

I was there the 9th through the 12th of September so yes, school had started. It was as deserted as it looks, but can have some small crowds on the week ends. The best time to go to Swift Reservoir is non holiday week days. Never a lot of people. Its kind of an un-discovered gem in the Northwest.
 
One last question, is this a flood control reservoir, meaning it is currently being drawn down for the winter?

The answer is yes. There are a few people that have summer cottages on the lake and they have told me that sometime after September the level of the lake will be drawn down with the lowest levels being in January and February. Right now the level is still good and up.

I have taken pictures of the sun deck and will have them in my album sometime tonight.
 
Lloyd – I posted photos of the sun deck in my Boat Projects album. They start on page two or you can click on the thumbnail below and go to the start of the photos.

It is built out of cedar so it is light (12 lbs). You need a decent cushion on top because of the spacing of the planks. You can also place a fourth plank in to decrease the spacing.

I see you are going to the Sequim CBGT so I will throw it in my truck and bring it with me. You can check it out then.

The three things I have found that has improved my space in the boat are
1. My rode locker in the bow
2. The shelf in the cabin above the windshield
3. The sun deck. When Terri is cooking it makes a convent place to store things she needs.
