Suzuki 90 alarms

I re-powered last year with a new Suzuki 90hp. I am now getting alarms, very short duration beeps with no indicator lights, at low RPMs.....when idling or when docking. I am not getting alarms any time other than at low RPMs.

Does Suzuki have an alarm that indicates when a service is due?

I have already talked with the marina that installed the engine and they think it may be a water pump starting to go out. I have scheduled service but need to use my boat one more time before the service date.

Any thoughts?

Yes the indicators and the piezo horn will tell you when it's time for service. Also it will tell you motor hours. The service manual has a chart of what they all mean. Also tells you how to silence them. I can dig mine out later today if someone doesn't beat me to it.
 
I would check oil pressure and voltage as well to see if they are within "normal" parameters at low idle rpms. If you don't have those gauges - you could plug a hand held digital voltmeter into the cigarette lighter plug.

Does the water stream from the tell tale look normal at idle. If you have a temp. gauge - have you noticed any changes?

As an auto mechanic I am a chronic "gauge watcher". The lack of gauges is one thing I hate about the rigging for most outboards. One time going out of the marina I heard an alarm. Thought it was just my low depth alarm so didn't pay much attention to it until I discovered it was my high temp. alarm. I think throwing out the gauges and putting in alarms is a ploy by the dealers to get you back for service. :lol:

What I like about this site is the informative and knowledgeable answers....oh and did I say quick also?

Jody- I looked for my manual and am ashamed to say that I somehow neglected to leave it in the boat. I would appreciate it if you looked in yours to determine what the alarm might mean.

Rob- the oil pressure and voltage seem to be the same as always. I do check the oil using the dip stick before I leave on each trip. One thing is that the oil pressure does increase as the RPMs increase. I had always thought that was normal but you, as a mechanic, could verify that.

The water stream from the tell tale looks normal at idle. As with the oil pressure, it does seem to increase as the RPMs increase.

I don't have a temp gauge. When I discussed this with the marina that installed the engine, they said the indicator lights would show over temp. Even with the original Suzuki, there was no temp gauge. The original Suzuki was set up by the factory when it was in Kent.

Hey Gene,

My 2006 Suzuki DF90 beeps every 100 hours as a service reminder. I just pull the key off the safety switch and lift up the button 3 times within 7 seconds. Do you think you're at the 100 hour mark?
