sorry for the confusion. the susan e IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT for sale for 14K. someone has hacked into tom's craiglist account changed the price and ALL the contact information. so that you have to contact this other web site, in the mean time his account passwrd has been changed so we can't even get into craigslist to delete the ad. any ideas?? tom is so pissed that tools are flying around in the garage.

I searched and saw the title, but clicking the link shows the post has been removed.

Are you seeing the actual post when clicking the link above? If so, try reloading the page and/or clearing your browser cache. The ad linked above, ain't there any more...but perhaps there's another one I didn't see.

I would like to offer $13,500 and a nearly new bowling ball. Please PM me to make final arrangements.

I have had several scam attempts on our craigs list here in VA. One had me directed to send $$ to "Paypal". When looking at the properties, it was a canadian site and not paypal at all.

Glad you got it fixed Tom/Susan. All you need to do is reregister using a different login.

UUGH! One of my pet peeves. CL sucks IMO. It's nothing but a portal for thieves, scam artists, freeks, liars and cheapskates. We see this stuff weekly, w/ scam victims reporting it all the time. This stuff happens all too often. Scam ads with promises of unbelievable deals that the scammer will "hold" if you just send them a "down payment", in cash of course. THen after you send your "deposit"...poof. GONE.

Pics of my black VW were posted on L.A. CL over >1 yr ago w/ a "sale price" of $5K. Riiiight. The guy is STILL up to it on different CL's, with different vehicles.

CL doesn't give a you-know-what about it. They seem to have this utopian attitude, but the real world isn't like that, and we all know it.

There have been a number of recent cases in the Bay area where "too good to be true listings" were posted on C/L with the line "need cash fast". When a buyer shows up with lots of cash in hand, at an agreed spot he is robbed by a couple thugs.

So be real careful on the big ticket items. Better yet, suggest you meet in the police parking lot or at least someplace extremely public.

Ditto, my experiences have been mostly good. I have sold quite a bit of stuff including three motorcycles and two mopeds, and just this week I bought a motorcycle helmet for our new "hogs" (two 50 cc 1987 Honda Sprees). But it is all face-to-face simultaneous exchange of money for goods. I have never bought or sold anything on CL by any other method, not sure how it would workfor anything more complicated than "I give you $25, you give me the motorcycle helmet." The City did sell a bunch of old ex-cop Crown Vics on CL, and that went well, but it was again exchange the money for the title and the car.

I like Craigslist as long as I deal in person and in cash.

The problem is not with craigslist its self. all these scams and scamers existed prior to craigslist. They used the classified ad, swap meets and other venues for their crimes. Now its much easier for us to hear about, track and share the scams with each other.

The problem is the scammers and the penal system that refuses to so anything about them. Thief is thief no matter the amount and should all be treated the same. $1 or $1,000,000,000 you should get ten years the first time and 20 years the second time. and before you all start talking about over loading our courts just remember that thieves are like fisherman. 10% of the criminal's commit 90% of the crime. longer they are locked up the less crime they can commit. Also thieves commit crime because the awards are worth the risk of getting caught and the small time if any served. So lets up the stakes. commit a crime with a gun=life.

so off the box for now and thank you all for helping get the post pulled.

When trying to sell items on CL I sometimes get some real weird replies and requests.
Where does all of that BS come from??
Someone is trying to screw up a pretty good system for individuals to sell things.

Litl Tug was bought off Craigs list. The guy who sold it was as leary of me as I was of him. We met at public boat launch. We didn't even conduct transaction first day, but looked over all the paperwork and met next week to finalize deal at a bank with a notary. I sold my old boat off Craigs List too. I thought it was slower than other methods though because I agree people scan CL for the too-good-to-be-true deals, not realistically priced items. It's a garage sale mentality.

I found a great deal on a new Garmin 496 GPS for half of current list price... Fella wanted payment via Paypal only... Having used them over the years there was a comfort factor there that relaxed my suspicions over such a great deal... I talked to him on the phone... I finally felt comfortable with the deal and made a Paypal payment using my credit card...

Bingo, Paypal froze the payment and told him (and me) they would release the funds only after I received the unit... He had a hairy fit... Emailed me a half dozen times ranting about Paypal had it in for him, yadda, yadda, and all I had to do was send him a cashiers check and he would pay the shipping out of his pocket...
I went to the trouble to find a phone number and talk to a Paypal supervisor
(not an easy thing, took me half a day of constant searching the web until I finally found ONE guy on ONE chat group on the entire web, that listed the correct number to get past their robot phone system)
She was pretty tight mouthed and would only say that 'something' had raised a red flag... Long story short, after 14 days he had not sent me the merchandise and my card was credited back with my payment... I take back all the bad things I have said about Paypal over the years...

Dear Paypal,
Having just complimented you let me once again assure you that you will never, never, never, be given direct access to my bank account - so stop trying... Not even my wife has access to that - and she does lots nicer things to me than you ever will...

Denny-O, was that through eBay? I am curious whether that would or would not have made any difference, as I have paid for eBay purchases via PayPal several times without incident. (There is always a first time, of course.)
