surfboard rowing?

At 67 I still surf, but on a surf kayak called a WaveMaster Strata:

I have degenerative joint desease (old age :-) in my hip, so stand-up surfing is a bit too much of a challenge, but on a surf kayak I can still keep up with the youngsters. The kayak has thigh straps, and I can do an eskimo roll. The young stand-up boarders think I'm nuts when I get trashed on a wave and stay on the board. But I wear a helmet, and rolling up saves getting trashed again by the next wave. Surfing, either standing up or sitting down, is the most enjoyable sport I've ever undertaken.

I want one! There were three "sellers" at the Seattle Boat Show, and I looked them all over. The one I want is 24 pounds, 11 feet long, and about 30 inches wide. It will fit nicely on top of C-Run. I have rationalized this addition to the boat fleet as a means of exercise. Great full workout, with an emphasis on a core workout and balance. I know, Robbin already called BS on this thinking. They are just cool! :D

Just found this photo. Had to laugh, but then I thought the cooler could sit right behind the chair! :beer

From what I know about them Robbi, it is no BS on your description; they are an all around work-out. And with the water temps up here you'll NOT want to fall off....

Cooler.... how about a tackle box? You could attach a rod holder to the chair.

The sport is growing. Now there is a dude with a pond at SBS showing his SUP boards. He was trying to sell a couple a $400 kevlar paddle!

$400 for a paddle???

It would be cheaper, and faster, too, to put the $39.95 Sears Craftsman ShopVac Rocket on it!

And you wouldn't need no stinkin' Wallas, either!

Joe. :xseek :thup

$400 for a Kevlar paddle does not surprise me at all. A nice paddle board isn't inexpensive either; you're probably talking in the $1200 and up range. Problem here is: no consistent waves without going to the coast, COLD water, LOGS & flotsum on the coast etc...but if you just want good excercise that works your ENTIRE body...

The Lake Shasta norm is more like drink 5 beers and get on the jet ski and go tearing off back to the marina at 45-65 mph to get the next several six packs before the crowd up in the hot tub on top of the houseboat roof runs out of brew. BBuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrppp!!! .......... ''cuse me!!! :?

Hey Joe

I like the fun you enjoy. I really need one of those rockets cause yesterday if was 10 foot and breaking hard. After the session at the baby beach where it was only 6 ft and breaking hard I did your type of fun without the skis and nice day it was.
BBuuurrrrrrrrpppp!!!!

Looks like today will be another great day at the beach. Should only be 8 foot and perfecto. Bring your rocket, beer, the sun bakes the gals, I've got the boards and paddles. Local boy your invited too, Heck, all the brats are invited. But I only have six boards, oh well Joe's bringin the beer. Well share.

Sun's coming up, I am gonna go stake out the beach. Sea ya there.

Lets paddle surf! eeeeehhhhhaaaaa!

You really missed it! Great day at the beach.

Since this subject keeps popping up and so many have shown interest, the above website is an accumulation of 102 out of 6000 pictures of stand up surfing and paddling in our area. These photos have been accumulated during the last three months. Six have been selected for an article in a magazine that will come out in March. The paddlers are me and my friend Rhyn who is the son of the legend THE BULL. In most photos of me I am on a red board and Rhyn is on blue white board.

Enjoy

On Kauai last year we watched a guy surfing with a paddle board, and doing quite well. Actually this guy was caching more waves then the rest, 10-15 footers.
