Starter Boat?

In Wefing's used boat listings, a beautiful 16 footer is described as a "great starter boat or day cruiser". I take exception to that description. It saddens me that even those with a lifetime on the water can summarily dismiss the many, many attributes of the finest, most versitile, most efficient, not to mention best looking, model of C-Dory extant. Hell, I would take that boat up the inside passage to Juneau! (well, maybe not in this lifetime, but in the next for sure). :disgust

Hey Marty-
A 16 would be a good starter for someones first boat--- take Paul for instance, you took him out in your boat up there, he came down and bought a 16 here in Channel Islands Harbor. Talked with him last weekend and he has been taking her out for short trips.
Hope he joins us on a lunch cruise to Ventura soon.
It is always nice for a "newby" to run with another boat so they can see how they look in the water.

Agree with you Marty. We were intent on the 16 before finding the deal on our 22. Did have plans on the 16 for the Inland Passage and still think it could be safely done. Of course I was so inexperienced and knew so few other boaters, that I thought most anything was possible I really wanted to do. After spending considerable time in a canoe on Yellowstone Lake most all other boats seemed big and the waves in comparison not so bad.

I've got to comment as that little "starter boat" was formerly my boat. It wasn't a starter boat for me as when I purchased it I had around 50 years experience in small open boats. I bought it for the creature comforts of the enclosed cabin. Up until that time I did all my boating alone or every now and then with a fishing buddy or my girlfriend. Seems like shortly after owning it both daughters, son-in-law, sister and GF all wanted to go boating. I was perfectly content with the 16 and wasn't afraid to take it anywhere in my boating waters but I couldn't fit the whole family in it very well so I traded it for my 22. Call it what you like but it's a great boat with many options that Wefing has priced at a very good deal. I agree the 16 is the best looking boat in the C-Dory line.

Ill take no responsibility for that copy , my webmaster wrote it ,he will be fired immediately........
Oh and I cant believe it hasn't sold yet either
The 16 line drawing resides on my business card . It is a classic.

You might say it is a 'starter" boat, or you could look at it as a "last" boat - when all the others are too big, too much, too everything...the 16 is "just right"!

..perhaps that is a little harsh. We 16 owners are a forgiving people....

Marc, Take him out in it a couple of times and your problems with that webmaster will be solved --- they'll buy the boat and also know it'll do anything the big boats will do -- with more finess and excitement :wink :rainbow
