I have a 2003 22' C-Dory, the deck screws that hold the Starboard divider between gas tanks and deck have given out, their is a strap around the fuel tank that cleats onto the divider to keep the tanks in place. The screws are anchored into the hull (deck) of the boat. My thought is too remove the divider and pick the remaining screws out then over drill the holes and bed in some 5/16 plastic shields to accept new stainless steel screws. Does this seems like decent way to repair the problem?

Do you mean the plastic which is forward of the tanks? Or where the tanks are attached to the bottom of the boat? In my 2006 there are strips of material glassed into the floor--these keep the tank in place. The plastic in the front of the tanks is screwed into these on the bottom, and thru the fiberglass on the top.
I looked in your album--to see if you had something different that then "usual"-and didn't see any photos of this area. A photo might help us under stand what you need to replace.
Whenever you drill into the "floor"--bottom of the boat, inner part, you should over drill, slightly, then under cut the balsa core. This should then be filled with peanut butter consistency thickened epoxy, which you can screw into.
It is common for the screws to come loose from the front--I just put a little 4200 on them when putting back in place.

Hey Thataway I was hoping I would here from you on this little project! I am not much into pictures and don't know my way around this box that sits on my desk very well, please forgive me. I have always know the material to be called starboard, but I guess it is some type of plastic. What is the epoxy name or manufacture that you prefer?
Side note: Thataway, I think you should run for President, I
would put up the first 1 million dollars for your

I think that the material in the front of the tanks in my boat is a thin piece of fiberglass, but it could easily be another plastic.
I happen to use West Systems, since it is easy for me to use--and I have been using it for years. It requires a specific ratio, and I use the pumps which are designed for the specific size of can of resin/hardener you are using. If you don't have a cleat (piece of wood along the forward and inside bottom of the tank, already glassed in, I would attach a piece of 1 x 1 with smoothed top edges with epoxy and covered with glass tape. The floor where you are going to attach the strip needs to be masked off for about an 2 inches on each side--then then sanded to the glass (If any paint on it). Then cleaned with de waxing solvent, and the wood glued in place, and then filets made of thickened epoxy put along each edge where it attaches to the floor--with glass laid over the strips of wood--and the screws set into this. Hope I understand what your needs are.
