Sta-Bil red/blue question

Should Sta-Bil Marine Formula Ethanol Treatment (blue) be used in conjunction with Sta-Bil Fuel Stabilizer (red), or is blue basically red with ethanol treatment?

I bought blue and red last night at O'Reillys but I realized later (even though it's not clear from the labels) that blue + red might be unnecessary.

Also, do any Seattle area brats know if ethanol free gas is sold around here, preferably at gas stations, not marinas?
 
I just use the Blue Marine formula in everything. I have a couple of different gas cans around the house. I treat all incoming gas to the homestead with blue stabil, I use it with my two stroke mix as well. The boat gets the usual 1 oz per every ten gallons and the heavier recommended dosage for the three months that the boat sits. Since I have used it no gas related problems. I also add Yamaha Ring Free or any other decarbonizer is recommended at each fill up. They say the a carbon build up can build up near the top of the cylinders and break piston rings. It also helps prevent carbon build up on the back side of intake and exhaust valves. The red stabil is for storage for non ethanol gas I believe.

Blue Sta-bil only for our use. Two different boat places here no longer sell the red, saying that it is useless with ethanol. We use the blue for storage and occasionally put it in when gassing up.
 
I am not sure the red is useless, but I use it only for non ethanol fuel. For 10% ethanol, I use the blue--but that is in generators etc....
 
I use Sta Bil Blue. Arlington Fuel Stop on the West Side of I-5 at Island Crossing (Exit 208) still serves non-ethanol. They still take care of the farmers in the community.
 
I found 2 Spirit stations in Seattle that supposedly carry E0 (see pure_gas.org). I need to figure out which one (if any) are big enough to drive a truck/boat trailer through. The closest to me is a teeny tiny gas station on a corner in Ballard and I think if I drove in there with the boat next to the pump the truck would be hanging out into the street! Also, being somewhat new to trailering, I don't want to accidentally get stuck there or take out a pump/car/bike.

I'll probably stick with ethanol gas and StaBil marine until I find a good E0 source.
 
The quick serve mini mart and gas station on the right side about 2 miles west of the bridge in west Mount Vernon pumps only EtOH free gasoline. Price is about the same.

If you are going to Anacortes or LaConner, driving through Mount Vernon and over the bridge near the tulip smoke stack does not take you much out of your way. The West Mount Vernon Hwy. re- joins Hwy 20 just past the Skagit Regional Airport.

FYI...cruising down the aisle this week at my local Walmart and I studder stepped at the new lower price for blue ($5.78/8oz) & red ($5.50/8oz.) stabil products! A significant reduction for both products! Who would have guessed?

John, even better news.....the directions call for fewer ounces per gallon of the blue than of the red!
 
My brother called the manufacturer of Stabile to ask about the difference between the blue and red stabile. Apparently, they told him that both stabilize ethanol as well as gasoline, but the blue is in much higher concentration, which is why it is so much more expensive. I use only Blue Stabile now, not only for my boat, but for all my small gas motors (snowblower, lawnmower, generator.) Since I've been using Stabile, I have had no problems whatsoever with small carbureted engines. In fact, I don't even run my small engines dry for the season. My only actions are to treat the fuel with storage-level (2x) amounts of Blue Stabile, and then to start up my small engines to circulate the stabilized gasoline through the carbs about once ever 45 days, but that's it. The manufacture claims that storage levels will maintain gasoline for up to two years. For me, I have found it is very effective for at least one year.
 
I have run the red stuff for years in my boat and it has come out of winter just fine. The blue stuff is better if you store your boat outdoors in a wet environment, or using ethanol (none here in this part of AK), but mine is out in the heated shop..... No worries or concerns so far.

Ditto. Since it came out, I no longer use the red.
