As the TC get older (3 years) and the hours go up, I am thinking more about spare parts on board. I got a spare alternator belt and thought about how to keep it ready for use. I used the kitchen vacuum bagger and included the Honda parts tag and an identifying label in the bag. So, what do the rest of you keep on board for spares?

A very timely post as I was contemplating what to pack along in an "Oh, s*#t kit". Dave showed me some of his emergency tape and I have the basic tools, fuses etc but I'm eager to hear what others carry for repairs, emergencies, back-ups, spares etc. I though spare bulbs would be a no brainer but let's hear it.

Good idea on the vacuu seal. Keeps everything out.

Mark,

Funny you should mention fuses. I carry a pretty big supply of blade type fuses and thought I was covered. While cruising last week with Sea Pal, they experienced a failure of the 12 volt portion of their NorCold Refrigerator. On top of the refrigerator, we found a blown 10 amp glass AGC fuse. Luckily the new owners of our old trawler were in Deer Harbor and had a spare on board.

I'm going to cut that fuse holder out and replace it with the blade type fuse. I think the radios have inline glass AGC fuses too. Out they come!

Spare prop, cotter pins, castle nut and floating wrench to change out. Spare bulbs for all lamps, spare fuses, volt meter, spare fuel filter, tape: duct, electrical, scotch, plumbers. Spare door and ignition key. Hose clamps, electrical wire. Took kit. Spare gin, vodka, vermouth.

Spare prop/props. Nuts and spacers for the prop. As noted wrench (also torque wrench with appropiate sized 1/2" drive socket. Spark plug wrench--and in some boats a set of plugs. Spare water pump impeller.

JB weld, various sealants and quick set epoyx. Duct and almaganating tapes, vinyl tape. A huge variety of fuses --all three sizes of spade type and an assortment of tubular. (not only for my boat, but there is always someone else looking for a fuse). Nuts, screws, bolts, SS threaded rod, in 3/16, 1/4 and 1/2". Head rebuild kit. In some boats we have either a water pump rebuild or a second water pump. Extra lengths of hose, and wire. (various sizes). Hose clamps, including those for the outboard fuel lines--as well as a spare primer bulb--also extra anti siphon valve. Full compliment of electrical connectors and good crimper. Adhesive shrink tubing.

The usual tools, including a strap wrench, pipe wrench, hammer, hatchet, Battery or 110 V operated Dremel tool--with various bits, including drill and cutting bits. Some extra pieces of fiberglass and epoxy for hull repairs. Plastic sheeting.

Good idea on the alternator belt. I'll have to look into that.
