Source for coaming boxes

Does anyone have a source for coaming boxes? I noticed that there is quite a bit of room for larger boxes in the Tomcat in both length and width. The space available is about 53X18"

I noticed that one of mine has a split in the bottom (cheap plastic!). I used to make combing boxes for my sailboats out of plywood--not that hard to do--I made the flange out of teak. Glassed the inside and that way you can have what ever size you want. Also a plywood box would give some stiffness to the side of the cocpit. I don't know at what point there may be some structureal component of the cockpit walls. But most of us note that the boats seem to flex, and develope stress cracks just aft of the cabin. I suspect that some of the "box section" of the cockpit gives some increased stiffness. I certainly would not cut out all of the fiberglass in the sides--on the other hand, I doubt that any "engineering" went into the amount of cutout which is currently present.

I think the two big suppliers of that type of product are SSI Plastics and Paragon Plastics.

There is a place called Flounder Pounder marine that deals in these types of products, as well as other cool "old stock" leftovers. (www.fpmarine.com I think)

Remember that there is quite a bit of rigging going through the Stbd side under the gunnel .
Pull your existing insert to see what there .

Yes the is quite a bit of rigging on the side but it is pretty low. There is still quite a bit of space there but I am concerned about strength in the cockpit floor area and I see that there are not a lot of sizes available for the boxes.
You could actually install another of the same box just below but it would get close to the floor and leave only an inch of glass in between.
