SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Didn't do a darn thing on the boat- the winds were terrible this past weekend.
I did show it to a prospective buyer though. NO NO NO- I'm not selling Fishtales- just showed her to someone that wants to buy a C-Dory.

Went looking for "toys" on Saturday and ended up at La Conner just in time to catch a glimpse of an (approx) 50 ft Yacht TOWING a C-Cory as a tender going South in the Swinomish channel !! How the other half lives !!

We were planning to pull Wild Blue out of the water today to head west. Our pickup had other ideas: a big puddle of fluid underneath her, no power steering or brakes. :x Trying to look on the bright side, at least it happened in our own driveway and not out in west Texas. So, I didn't go anywhere in my C-Dory today, but I did get to ride in a tow truck; the warranty also covers tow service to the nearest dealer. Of course, that dealer didn't have a power steering pump for the Duramax in stock... I was promised: "we should have a new pump here by no later than 3:00 tomorrow afternoon... maybe." :crook Yep, "no later than" and "maybe" in the same sentence. When you live in this part of the world, you soon find out that "manana" doesn't mean tomorrow... it just means: not today.

So, we'll be heading out of here... sometime.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

We headed out of Sequim Bay at 8:30 this AM, bound for Mystery Bay (across from Port Townsend). This is our club's "Shakedown" Cruise. The TC was performing beautifully.

The water got a little choppy as we passed Discovery Bay and approached Point Wilson Lighthouse. Rounding Point Wilson at 9:25, we encountered the winds that were predicted for 11:00! We found later today that between 9:00 and 10:00 AM, they jumped 20 knots to 36. The whitecaps were about 4'-5' and it seemed they were no more than 15'-20' apart.

I suppose we could have pressed on, but it was more than we wanted to endure for the next hour. Back to Sequim we went with our traveling companions we encountered enroute.

Our potluck dinner will be at John Wayne Marina tonight and we'll try it again tomorrow. Ah, Spring in the North West!

I have been getting Discovery ready for the Lake Powell and Delta/San Francisco Bay gatherings. I filled both gas tanks full ( as full as possible ) to determine the accuracy of the Flo Scan fuel flow meters. The meters had recorded a total usage of 197.7 gallons since I had last reset the counter. I had put in 120 gallons on the final leg of our winter cruise in Florida, and then trailered the boat home to Utah. I was able to put 78 gallons into the two tanks. That's .3 gallons more than the recorded usage ( 120 + 78 ). I was amazed that the indicated usage and the actual usage was so close. This gives me a lot of comfort in planning fuel stops on long cruises.

Cajun Dory on a Monday Afternoon.
Finally a day off and good weather! About 73, clear skies and a light S.E. wind.
A good day to bring my wife out for the first time on Cajun Dory.
We launched at Cypremort Point State Park and went into Shark Bayou. There were no sharks in Shark Bayou.
Next we went to Redfish Point. There were no redfish at Redfish Point.
We then cruised around Pelican Point. You guessed it! No pelicans.
There was still plenty of daylight left so we motored deep into the marsh. We came across a couple of small alligators 5 to 6 foot long. Next we came upon what must have been thousands of Louisiana purple Iris in full bloom. What a magnificent sight! I pulled to the bank and cut a handful of the glorious flowers for wy wife. MAJOR spousal points!
All in all a great afternoon.
Bon jour mes amis!

Capt. Jim-

Good for you and the wife!

No Sharks at the Shark Bayou. No Redfish at Redfish Point. No Pelicans at Pelican Point.

You had me worried.

I thought for a minute there you were going to stop at the Hot Spot Hotel, where there would be....................

Joe. (Forgive me)

OK, know any good Boudreaux stories? Here's one.

Boudreaux solicits a lady of the night. She says "How much are you willing to pay?" He says "Ten dollars." She goes off in a huff.

Later that night, Boudreaux and his wife are dining in a restaurant, and this same lady comes by. She eyeballs them both and says "Harumph!! See what you get for ten dollars????"

On the road again (everybody sing  )...

A day late, thanks to a crapped out power steering pump on the pick-up, but Wild Blue is heading for her next adventure. We got a late start, so only made about 340 miles. Wild Blue is the second boat to stay in this particular campground (according to the owners). Molly the C-Brat cat got some time out of the truck while I checked in and set up. We have cable tv and a great wireless broadband connection.

On the way to see our kid and then heading for the Lake Powell gathering. The boat won't be swinging on the hook tonight, but it still feels great to be back onboard overnight.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Overheard while fishing:

Boudreaux: Mais-I tank Marie an me gonna got a divorce.
Thibodeaux: Why Boudreaux?
Boudreaux: It's Marie, she ain't spoke one word to me in six month.
Thibodeaux: Mais Boudreaux, I tank you should reconsider.
Boudreaux: Why you say dat?
Thibodeaux: Cause a woman like dat is hard to find!

:rose Finished making curtains, and put Pooch in Village West Marina, Stockton CA for two months so we can get to know the Delta. Close by was a blue c-dory named iamc-dory, we had hoped to get to know who the owner was but no one showed up when we were there. The wind was blowing a wee bit to hard for us so we will put off our adventuring for another weekend.

What am I doing on my C-Dory today? (Good question!)

Finally, we have a nice spring-like day here in western NY. I pulled my boat out of winter storage last weekend, and brought it home. It's been parked in the driveway the past two days, much of the time collecting snow!

This afternoon, I plan to put the boat "back together again" for the upcoming boating season. (Before I put it into winter storage, I removed anything and everything that could be removed, i.e. stolen.) So I am looking forward to a good afternoon "messing around" on my CD...as well as getting some good exercise, carrying "stuff" from the garage and climbing in and out of the boat!

Over the weekend (when the temps are supposed to reach 70 in these parts), I look forward to taking my first spin of the 2007 season on L. Ontario!

Daydream is down at Lake Union Sea Ray in Fife (Milton, actually). We dropped her off last Saturday. Upgrade the non-functional little cockpit drains (C-Dory will cover), repair the transom gelcoat cracks (C-Dory will cover), upgrade dinette table leg, upgrade wiper arms and new cable boot (all our expense). So far so good - communication with Aaron Alderman, the service manager, has been great. Also have made arrangements with I-90 Marine to do the Honda BF150 shift arm recall work.

Today was a beautiful day here in Anacortes. I took my daughter, visiting from Utah, out to see Fidalgo Island on the Lori Ann. We first drove under Deception Pass bridge.

What a spectacular ride -- made all the more spectacular by a tug-like workboat (not beamy like a real tug but otherwise similar) that came barreling through the Pass at about 20 knots -- while we were also in the Pass. We were tossed about like a cork and one of my antennae came crashing down on the cockpit (no damage, just came loose.)

Then we drove around Fidalgo in the other direction through Guemes Channel so she could see downtown Anacortes from the water.

Just another day in paradise.

Stuck at work today-- in the rain! YEA- we finally got some rain in Santa Barbara. We have had terrific winds the past couple weeks. It's all good though, salmon opened the first of the month, but the water temps have been 58-59 degrees. Very few salmon have been caught so far. The winds have brought the temps down a few degrees- 53 this morning. Time to break out the downriggers and go catch some salmon. Hope to get out next weekend.

Hey Roger, I'm working on a 'home-made' downrigger from an old 12/0 reel I had laying around. So, do you have a favorite area you try for the salmon off the coast or do you just tool around until you find a thermocline or see fish at a certain depth?

It was a busy week for this 16: I painted the interior, just a personal thing, but I'm much happier in that small space with a uniform, neutral color than with bright white and busy speckles. I renamed it for fourth or fifth time, maybe escaping the perils of forgoing a renaming ceremony, as this is the first I've liked enough to actually put on the boat: "Altered Attitudes". Later I made arrangements to swap the monster Mercury for twin Honda 20s, as I should have done in the first place. Alas, the lake is so low that I can't get it out of the boat house! I mean it rides really high on sand and the prop would dig in well, but...you know. Rainy season cometh.

Whoever installed the depth finder transducer that I removed did not
do a good job sealing the screws. One of them had corroded and snapped
off when I went to remove it. So, I dug out the core from around the
holes and put epoxy in. Hope it cured before it ran out (put tape over
the holes). The core that came out was not black, but it was not solid
looking, either. Hull sounds OK when tapped. Anyhow, time to go check
the epoxy.

Edited: Looked good yesterday afternoon.
