SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Spent the AM being captain/guide for a friend of mine. Launched at Edmonds at 6:00 AM and fished near Edmonds for about 2 hours without much luck other than a few small shakers. LOTS of other boats out there and I didn't see any nets flying. So, I picked up and ran over to the W side of Possession Pt. It took a couple hours more but we picked up these two coho. The larger one is 6.8# and the smaller is 4.5#.BobWith2CohoSept4_2006Crop.jpg.

Weather was nice - a few clouds in the AM with 10kt wind from the NW. After about 10:30AM, the sun came out and the wind dropped off to almost nothing. All-in-all a good day.

Can you find them down there that will work. Up here, I have been looking for one that is willing to help with yard work and some farm work and can’t find any. Anyway that is one willing to work for $12 an hour. All I have been able to find are old alcoholics or burnt out druggies.

I like the way your canvas top completely covers the deck and engine well.

Fished off Gig Harbor today, got a shaker & a little 20" King that I threw back, weather was great, just lotsa boat wakes from the "Rodney's"..(if you've seen Caddyshack ya know what I mean ;)

I guess I'll title this essay "How I spent a week of my summer vacation".
There I was, lounging in folding chair, enjoying a cigar, savoring a sip of fine Bourbon, waiting for the ferry at Westport Slough when it became apparent it was time to stop dreaming and get a small cruiser.
I had noticed C-Dory's a few years ago, and after several days & nights of research the 22 Cruiser rose to the top of my list. During my studies I stumbled on this forum. What a find!
After looking at some boats I had to find a tow rig. That taken care of it was time for more boat shopping. A price was negotiated for an '05 22' Cruiser with the foreward facing passenger seat option.
While the bank shuffles it's papers I've been surfing this forum for outfitting ideas.
Well it's time to go outside and clear the clutter out of the RV pad-dog pen.

Milehog, you must be B~C's neighbor, right? In LaCenter I'll bet everyone in town is your neighbor! (And I am from the pre-Quadrant Snoqualmie, so I would say generally that is a GOOD thing!)

I'll step outside and yell, lets see if he hears me :) small town, good.

I just got back from my favorite marine supply store, Home Depot....I'm going to try my hand at new laminate counter tops

Got my mom her first salmon ever this past Labor day. A nice 25lb chinook, 37 inches long. That's my boy next to the fish. He's 37 inches too but he weighs more me thinks.

After a week on dry land (visiting our daugher), we have Wild Blue back in the water... Lake Powell. We are spending the night at Wahweap Marina; got the boat launched, picked up a slip, parked the trailer, and just made it back to the boat as the sun set.

Molly the cat is happy to be back onboard; I am looking forward to a good night's sleep in the v-berth... and then exploring Lake Powell for a while. Light rain with a beautiful full rainbow as we pulled in; looking foward to seeing the sights! :D

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I know I don't need to tell you, Jim and Joan, but if I were just beginning my cruising adventure on Lake Powell (as I vow we are going to do, one day), the first night before departure, I would eagerly read B&E's installments, looks like there are four of them, from 00, 03, 04 and 06...this is one of the Professor's favorite spots on Earth, if not THE favorite, and it shows in the photos and text. Pretty sure you know how to find it without a link...

Hi Jim,

How long will you be at Lake Powell?

We will be there starting the 16th until the 29th. Not in the C-Dory this time. We will be doing house boats with friends. More fun with the C-Dory but too many people going.

This will be my 4th time and I have seen only a small part of the lake. Sept. looks like a good time to go, you will have a great time!

Steve

Hi Pat: yes, I have been reading through all the Lake Powell info shared here. Easy to see why it is so popular, and I have only seen the launch ramp and a marina slip. :wink

Hi Steve: no definite time schedule for us here, but we are both getting a bit anxious to get the boat back to south Texas to do some work on it to get it set up better for our usage. I had to do some "smooth talking" to make this trip happen... Joan got a nasty cat bite on her hand last week (no, not our sweet Molly, one of our daughter's cats did this damage). She had to go to the doctor and can't be plunking her hand in the water. Still, she helped yank the boat off the trailer last night. I'm thinking a few days of cruising will help her mend. So, if we're still around by the 16th, try to roust us on the VHF.

Just back in from a sunrise walk on the docks... nothing great to shoot from this vantage point. Can't wait to get out there.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Jim & Joan - I have been following your adventures and hope you are still taking lots of photos. I notice you have not added any lately.

Joan, I hope the hand heals soon.

Terri and I am getting ready to head to Swift Reservoir (just south of Mt. St. Helens) today for a few days.

Take care

OH Boy;
Neptune Festival here with the USNavy's Blue Angels... all this weekend!

Ran to boat to get out see them from water... TOOOO many doing the same thing. So, I took the side curtains off the camper back, while on a work rack, in stead. I greased the snaps and am ready for a run down the Great Dismal Swamp Canal from Norfolk, VA for a loop to NC and back up the ICW to home port.

No water under the hull, but a good time cleaning and prep'ing.

They just flew over my house! Got to go & watch!

A year or so ago I removed the Origo stove and installed a baby Wallas. I trimmed out and back filled the remaining hole in the counter with the notion that someday, if the stove was going to work for me, I'd redo the whole counter top. It's been redone.
I removed the stove & sink and laid down some formica, trimmed the edge of the sink opening with same, drilled holes in sink flange and mounted sink under counter, whittled up board to fit in sink opening and covered it with formica. I now have a hidden sink and a much nicer looking galley :) I also redid and covered my seat riser so when the seat cushion is flipped over, there is more counter top.

I figure since my fishing partner is leaving, and there is more boaters than fish in the river, I might as well work on converting the boat into the ultra luxury cruising yacht it yearns to be :)

Since I still had water intrusion at the Wallas exhaust, I removed the flex tube from the elbow tube and applied some high-temp gasket sealer.

Last month I removed the thru-hule fitting and applied the high-temp sealer at the fitting-- it slow the water intrusion. While at Catalina, I noticed, in rough water, that water was coming in where the flex tube was connected to the hard tube elbo.

We took off on Fri and went to Gulfport, Miss to put in. This was our first time since Katrina to see the small boat harbor. All the buildings were gone, all the boats and boat slips were gone, but the public ramps were open. We put in and was immediately boarded by the Coast Guard for an inspection. They also asked for our auto drivers license which suprised me. They used them to call the local law to check for any outstanding warrants. They were very professional and courteous. After this we went out to Cat Island which is approximately 7-8 miles out. We spent Fri nite anchored off Cat. Our air conditioner again performed beautifully. Fri nite I set out my shrimp trap which I purchased from a company is Seattle. I had never head of anyone in the Gulf using a shrimp trap, but was willing to try after reading about people using one on this site. We struck out on shrimp, but we caught 3 crabs. We rode to Ship Island on Sat and anchored off the east section of Ship. Katrina widened the gap that Camille had started. The east section is about 3 miles from the west section containing the fort. We spent the night with the intention of running to Horn Island, but with storms starting building to the south, we decided to head for home.
We had a great time, but have come to realize that we should build an extra hour or so into our schedule to allow for the time spent talking to people about our C-Dory! We had about 10 people stop us to ask questions about the boat.

Still waiting on paperwork (loan) but I'm getting vicarious thrills ordering stuff. Icom M422 VHF, Digital 528VW antenna, Mustang inflatable pfd's, & small stuff.
I learned about Digital's 4.5 db antenna and Star Marine's low prices on this forum, good stuff.
