SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

I just recently had the same problem with quartering waves splashing up into the exhaust pipe and leaking down the side of the hull. I am not sure if the leak is at the hull joint or where the flex pipe is clamped around the fitting. I am going to run a hose stream down the hull above the fitting to see if I can check the hull fitting seal. If that doesn't leak then I will have to use some kind of sealant around the fitting nipple under the hose clamp. I would appreciate any info or tips about how you fix your leak.
 
Hey Roger, sorry if I implied you had all of your accessories installed by someone else--I've seen your handywork and it's good.

On my 1300 Wallas heater I have a combo intake/exhaust type fitting. The manual explained to put high temp sealant on the inside of the outer tube for first 3 inches or so, and also on the outside flange to hull interface (in addition to the gasket). I have no leak there so far in all sea conditions.
 
Nick and Marcia from Valkyrie graced my poor fishing boat on 8-11. They hadn't fished for salmon before but are obviously veteran anglers and they promptly caught their limit of six adult kings, 15 to 22 lbs. It was a pleasure to meet both of them and share C-Dory stories. Nick is extremely nimble around the docks and saved my boat from bumps, Marcia caught the biggest fish - what a veteran veterinarian!! It was a great day on the water at Manistee.

On the downside water is seeping into the cuddy flotation chamber again. My boat was supposed to have been built after the too long screw hole problem was fixed but four out of the eleven holes were drilled too deep. I thought I had it fixed but obviously not - now to try again. What a PITA.

Monday morning, playing hooky from work, anchored up here in Matia Cove, absolutely beautiful morning! We launched Friday morning at Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham, crabbing at Lummi, got one keeper but enough for whiskey crab soup! Then to Matia Cove, sundowners on the cockpit, wow, it does not get any better than this! Hiked with Patty and Baxter from Matia Cove over to Rolf Cove and chatted with the boaters tied up at the float there. Saturday afternoon back to Squalicum to pick up daughter Lydia and boyfriend Conor. Then to Clark Island, anchored up on the west side, as all the buoys were occupied on both sides of the island - directly exposed to Rosario Strait, but anchor set well and we had a nice calm night. Next morning, Sunday breakfast, blankety-blank Wallas flamed out (details in another thread!), so we finished cooking on the butane single burner. Motored over to Doe Island, picked up a buoy there for lunch, Patty says I put too much whiskey in, maybe I did...still damn good to me! Hiked around Doe. Baxter loved it! Ran Conor back to Bellingham, he had to work today, ran into Jim and Joan on Wild Blue, very nice little visit! Headed for Patos but due to the hour, we broke off when we got to Matia, got anchored up and had sundowners and dinner here a second time. We will head back some time after breakfast today, all in all a delightful three and a half day outing!

I removed the exterier trim and applied some high-temp gasket sealant to the cork gasket where the exhaust goes through the hull. Will find out next week how it works.

After fixing the screw holes in the brass stem guard, I still had water entering the v-berth.
I don't know if you have the chain locker drain or not- I do. I poured a gallon of water in the chain locker and checked it after an hour. There was about an inch of water remaining and there was water under teh v-berth---- the chain locker was leaking.
Everytime I was bow into a swell or wave, it was letting water into the locker and leaking into the v-berth.
The locker was an un-finished area. I re-finished the locker on Fishtales and raised the bottom up to the drain hole. It's been dry since.

I did not snap any shots at Clark Island for some reason, there are a few from Doe Island, but most are Matia pix, it is just our favorite spot (so far) in all of the San Juans, especially the little cove on the SE corner, sometimes called Matia Cove.
 
Good pictures Pat & Patty. I generally like the scenic pictures best but especially like the "Sundowners in the Cockpit" picture. It is an exceptionally good picture of you and Patty.
 
Thanks, Dave - Matia is one very scenic place! Daughter Lydia snapped the "Sundowners" shot. It doesn't get any better than this, and our enjoyment of being there kind of shows in this pic, doesn't it...

Took my daughter and some friends out for a two hour cruise through the Cape Cod Canal and back. Sherry had to work, so I was on my own for the first time. Got the boat off the mooring and to the beach to pick up the others. Had a beautiful cruise -- light wind, perfect tides, perfect current, perfect weather. No mishaps at all. Dropped everyone back at the beach and snagged the mooring all by myself for the first time ever! I'm starting to feel like I know what I'm doing. We bought this boat for days like this.

Wow :D What a wonderful three days out there in the San Juans. Visited a lot of places we had never been to before and returned to some of the more familiar spots, too.

First thing that happened (Wednesday morning) as we drove into the Squalicum parking lot with R-MATEY was seeing WILDBLUE'S tow vehicle. What a pleasant surprise to find out that Jim and Joan had returned to our little corner of the world; that they'd be up here for at least another week.

After a visit with them we left for Waldron Island but first we had to cruise Matia (a favorite place), then over to Sucia where we actually found enough dock space to tie up and have lunch. We then cruised over to Waldron and from there to Stuart Island.

At Stuart (Prevost Harbor)) there was one space left at the dock which made us a couple of happy boaters. We were pleased with ourselves that we didn't choose Reid Harbor on the other side. About 20-30 young ladies from a summer camp on another island had canoed over to Reid Harbor and were spending the night. What amused me the most was the ice cream barge/store anchored out on the Reid Harbor side.

So after spending the night at Prevost Harbor we set off to explore some more of this beautiful PNW. About 10 am we arrived at Roche Harbor. After fueling up we tied up at the end of G Dock for the two hour limit. From Roche Harbor we explored several other areas. Finally arrived at Blind Bay and couldn't believe our eyes. There's WILDBLUE anchored out. They'd only been there 15 minutes. So after a short visit with them we thought we'd go to Anacortes but then chose Lopez as our destination.

Phoned Lopez for a slip. We were placed in the same slip we'd had back in May at the CBGT. That was simple. Spent the night at Lopez and awoke to a beautiful morning. Water just like glass. The tide was out and there was a couple of times where we were in water that was just under 3 feet. Scary! Encountered thick fog just beyond where the ferry leaves Lopez Island for Anacortes. Several boaters including us, followed the ferry into Anacortes. The fog lifted just as the ferry made its turn into the terminal. From there we explored Anacortes and LaConner.

Coming back to Bellingham was very choppy. I mean VERY choppy. Most happy to see the inside of the Squalicum Harbor. All in all, a really great time.

At this very second (Saturday, a little after 8:20 a.m.), Daydream is swinging on the hook in the Inner Harbor at Port Ludlow, launched yesterday afternoon at Everett. There are a couple of sailboats and a couple of express cruisers anchored up here as well but still lots of room. This is a gorgeous spot, totally protected and water like glass. There are big houses lining the shore on one side, so not really secluded, but they are far enough away so we are not staring each other in the eyeballs. Baxter is curled up in his bed snoozin'. There is a wireless net in range (arnnjan, which I assume is Arnie 'n Jan) but they prudently are not running an open system - dang! - so connecting through the Treo. Can you imagine the sailors of old ("to the sea, to the sailers of old," as we incant) getting a glimpse of the future? :lol: This is just a one-nighter for us, back home this afternoon, but at least we splashed her...
 
Took Robbin and my mother in law out on Lake Washington yesterday. Launched at Sandpoint and cruised to Coulon then back into Lake Union returning to Sandpoint around 15:00. We dodged all the fishing boats including Jeannie C a nice looking Tom Cat trolling for sockeye.
A great day, weather was wonderful. We cruised all day on less than a 6 gallon tank of gas, doesn't get much better.
 
Well Rick and Gary took their new TC 25 for a test drive. Where.........North to Alaska. They took a leisurely 6 days and now they are on their way back, having a ball. Rick called Thursday from his cell (got to love the technology today) while on their way across the channel to Prince Rupert. Enjoying the fishing and taking their time coming home.
Can't wait to see the videos.

I'll be getting a few projects done in the next couple of weeks prior to heading out for vacation on Shasta Lake.
I need to install a new windlass, replace the mechanical steering system with hydraulic and check a few minor issues that I've been putting off.
Can anyone tell me which hydraulic system C-Dory is putting on the 22ft. cruisers these days? I'm running out of time and would hate to order the wrong unit.

I'd read through the Library Forum on Motor Control Systems before I made a choice,

HERE is a great discussion of the differennces and advantages between the Teleflex Bay star and Sea Star systems.

The factory and Les at EQ use the less expensive Baystar, but the more expensive Sea Star has more advantages, especially for applications where one will eventually add an autopilot.

Do you have twins or a single? How do you steer your kicker if you have one?

How about dual controls?

Not so simple a subject!

Thanks for the reply! I have twin Yamaha 50's, duel controls and would like to install an autopilot in the future. I am upgrading from the Telefex no feedback mechanical system that the factory used to install as standard equipment. I figure that the Tie bar I already have shoud be OK.
Research I've done tells me that the Baystar if for single outboard use only. I've had my eye on the Seastar 1.7 kit.
I'll give you call during the week to get your opinion of launch ramps .....
for the lake. I've never been there before and have a million questions. Most folks have been telling me that the best place to try and get secluded is the McCloud arm. Not leaving until the 13th.
 
After a month in Puget Sound and the San Juans, we have made our way south to Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is billed as "America's most beautiful lake." I can see why: 27 miles long, 11 miles wide; blue, clear, and deep (over 1500 feet deep in places)... and beautifully fresh. Great for "powerflushing" the motor and thoroughly rinsing the boat. And with winds above 20, gusts to 35, the waves build to 3-5 quickly, presenting the opportunity for a LOT of rinsing. Still, our time here at Tahoe has been great. Beautiful scenery every direction.

From here, we will make our way further south to the scorching desert and the boat will be dry for a week or two while we visit with our landlubber daughter.

I installed a Permatrim on our Suzuki DF90. Love it! Had one on the DF70 and loved that too. I was able to use the Bennett Trim Tabs with no problem but I like the way the Permatrim gets the bow down much better than trim tabs, IMHO. Plus, the boat is so much more responsive to the Power Trim with the Permatrim installed.

Caryn and I just got back from a nice 2-day fishing trip down in the Puget Sound. We were originally planning to trailer down to Everett from Twin Bridges but the weather was so darn nice, we decided to cruise down instead. What a great decision. The water was absolutely beautiful both yesterday and especially today. We made the trip from Tulalip to Twin Bridges in 2 1/2 hours, including nearly 1 hour going the 3 miles up the Swinomish Channel at No-Wake speed. We were really flying, averaging nearly 20 knots up Saratoga Passage on flat, glassy water. The engine was just purring. Love the Suzuki, love the Permatrim, love the boat! What a great day!

Oh by the way, didn't catch any salmon. Oh well, can't have everything :wink
 
Had her out for the maiden (for us) voyage yesterday - 4 adults + 2 4 yr olds and a 2 yr old! Fun day, until the 2 yr old barfed all over the v-berth =) Cleaned right up tho & we actually got a little blackmouth in the boat, good omen even if it was a shaker.

Today was a bit more relaxed, just the wife & I & our 4 yr old, no fish but at least I could dial the boat in & had room to move around. Tomorrow is serious fishing day.
 
Well, we had "Papillon" out of the water all week taking care of a few odd jobs, like new camper top finial fitting, bilge pump replacment, and of course a few new coats of bottom paint. This time around I needed one more quart of white paint to get the color to match with the accent stripe, and at $62.00 a quart, I decided they were close enough....considering most of it will be under water most of the time. I discovered I am getting to damn old to do this job and made up my mind to let the boat yard haul her out the next time and hire me a teenager to do the job, with me looking over his shoulder every step of the way.
