SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

itiming, that PVC fender is a great idea and I'm going to make one. I assume that's schedule 40, but what's the diameter?

Have you used them and how do they work? I may use schedule 80, due to pounding in a storm.

Thanks for the "fender on the uprights" suggestion -- yes, would be much easier than my trying to line up/keep lined up boat-attached ones.

For the PVC fender, I used 10 ft of 4", schedule 40 perforated sewer pipe (what I had laying in my scrap pile):

So far, it has worked twice.
Likes: light-weight, drains water quickly, rugged enough? (I hope), easy to lash to the roof rack & deploy.
Not-so-much: so far, no one has mistaken it for teak railing
 
Looks more practical than teak railing to me.

We've found that when we can't place fender centers at the middle of the rubrail, fender plastic scuffs up the gelcoat. Mainly in extreme conditions, with whitecaps at the dock like this:

Pretty cool idea, and could even be tied to the fender, top and bottom if needed.

I wonder how far apart those vertical posts are. A 22 is pretty short, and The forward 6 feet would probable clear that post if the stern was snugged up close to the aft post.

Do you have to remove the external TPMS sensors prior to launching? Salt water and electronics do not get along well. I'm pulling the boat to north Idaho in August and a system would be nice.

I'm doing a complete brake job and why not spend more money on something? :lol:

Depends on the brand, and for the TST brand depends on which model sensor (the sealed units with non-replaceable 5 year battery are totally waterproof, but their sensors with a owner replaceable battery not so much).

We've come to regard having a TPMS system highly desirable when trailering a heavy rig long distances; it's paid for itself several times over (though TST is on the expensive side of the market).

Docked with the PVC Fender Board today at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore - Basswood Island Dock. Vertical post spacing was 6.5 feet (varies from 3 to 7 ft, or so). We were protected from the east wind, but did have 3 wakes, from large boats push past the dock. Giving a good wave push from both directions.

We used John's recommendation to keep the fender's centers near the rub rail to minimize scuffing. I used 2 fenders. To keep the fenders from moving off the board, I did one quick rap of the fender line around the fender board line. I tried attaching a fender directly to the board -- to reinforce keeping the fender-board-position -- would be a good idea, if leaving the boat unattended for longer than our lunch break.

Took the Limpet out yesterday for the first time in a long time. I had about 23 gallons of two year-old gas onboard. I thought about syphoning it out into my other toys, but I don't have enough toys for that much gas. And syphoning always ends up being messy.

So we decided to burn it in the Limpet. We went from Port Orchard to Poulsbo for lunch and survival rations (chocolate chip cookies), then out through Agate Pass to circumnavigate Bainbridge Island, south to the Winslow ferry terminal and cruise Eagle Harbor, down past the Blake Island Marine Park, back through Rich Passage and home.

Because of the minus tide, the launch ramp was laying on the beach. So we went into Dyes Inlet up to Silverdale and bobbed around for an hour. That cruise only used up about 10 gallons. I need to do another cruise like that before I can get fresh gas.

I found out my depth sounder isn't working for some reason. And the motor angle indicator isn't working (I've had that happen before). Other than that, all is well after sitting for two years.

Thanks, John. I'm putting on some new tires, so perhaps I'll look into this more.
 
The tiny batteries in my cheapo TMS were dead and needed to be replaced. Once replaced and the solar powered monitor charged up, it was ready to go. It's been in the salt many times with no problems. I have a single axle trailer, so two of the senders are on the car and two on the trailer. No problem transmitting the 25' from the trailer axle to the monitor on the dash. I don't know why it isn't available right now.

Yes, Mark...there seem to be quite a few "Made in China" TPMS systems at Amazon. They are cheap...but therein lies the issue for me. Cheap in quality from a country I prefer not to support, whenever possible. I'm hoping the TST brand mentioned by John is made in America. It should be for the prices, but I'll have to research it more when I have free time. I'm retiring soon so I plan on getting out more often and for longer trips.
 
We took a day cruise to the Ft. Pickens section of Gulf Islands National Seashore (11 miles round trip from our slip). We left this morning during a Small Craft Advisory, but we think that was overblown as we didn’t get a single drop of water on the windshield crossing Pensacola Pass. Bashing through waves in a TRUE SCA would have put 3-5 droplets on the windshield. Maybe more.

Like some of you, we are suffering through a cold front with a high today of 82, water temp 80 degrees. We did a six mile beach walk. You’ve seen other pics of Memorial weekend crazy rabid Florida party animals like us on our beaches, here’s some more.

Colby will likely claim that ideal water temperature is 38 degrees, like the Apostle Islands in mid August, and that the water is too clear here, the surf is too rough, that no beach can tolerate more crazy rabid party animals than the two of us, and that a decent beach wouldn’t have so much snow on it.

Localboy, you’re going to love retirement! We can do it again tomorrow!

We took another day trip to the Gulf Islands Natl Seashore, Perdido Key, Ft McCree cove. Water is up to 83 degrees, high 85. We walked the Gulf beach for 2 hours and saw only two other couples.

We met a nice couple on a CD 25 from Ocean Springs, MS on an adventure. They crossed Mobile Bay yesterday in really tough conditions.

They haven’t named their boat yet. We’ve been getting some screening medical chores done; I suggested ‘C-Scope’ (name the dinghy “The Prep”). They wouldn’t commit to that today. Perhaps an even better name for your anchor! A quick search on the site implies no one has used that name to date. It’s open!

We watched the Blue Angels practice, close enough to see the pilots helmets in the cockpit as they screamed by.

Hiking every island in the GINS is a great goal! Consider it as a future cruise, and enjoy!

Actually, that all looks very enjoyable. However, we are headed up to the 60 degree water of Green Bay around Door County this next week. With air temps in the upper 70s and low 60's at night. My kind of boating. lol Colby

??? If the beaches are so great, how come the snow is so deep on the shore?

CCC Looking for a testing medical name, C-PAP is not on the list either. I came close, by didn't want to confuse Sleep and OB-GYN :shock:

I do like that clear water but at 82 degrees I would loose my bilge cooler. Might even have to add ice.

Thanks for sharing those beach pix, but nobody is going to believe it is Florida. And your cold spell, well we didn't get past 54 today.

Got the fender board to work under "more nautical" conditions today; when tying up to the Michigan Island dock's leward side (1-3 ft seas) -- east wind hitting port side.

Today was the first sea trial for Hammerhead after having been taken apart 7 months ago for major repairs. We went to Lake Merwin and messed about for about an hour and a half and got some time on the motors, checked out the steering, checked out a lot of things. There are still a ton of unfinished projects on the boat, but I was really glad to hear those hondas fire up and we made it through with no equipment failures Now its back to work to get those systems finished up. We are leaving for Key Largo in 5 days!
