SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

We had nice conditions in the top fifty feet of water off San Pedro, California yesterday. While ascending, I looked up to see my Tomcat with sunrays beaming down.

Stunning. Now that is a view most TomCat owners do not hope to see. Very nice, and I'm guessing not entirely accidental. Good job.

This is what we didn't do on our C-Dory yesterday/today:

Leave through the locks and head to Eagle Harbor for an overnight stay at Harbour Marina.

Instead, there was a small craft advisory, and although I'm sure the trip would have been fine for a more seasoned captain, it's our first year and would have only been our second trip in the sound. I was itching to try out the alcohol stove, the shore power for electric heat, the cockpit canvas for the rain and the window curtains for privacy.

Oh well, we'll see what next weekend looks like.

Spent a quiet and peaceful ride (5 hours) mostly slow cruise from John Wayne out to Protection Island and then deep into Discovery Bay. Winds from the south, waves were 1 to 1.5, and winds about 5 but over the time both wind and waves died out. Outside temps about 50ish and inside it was 74 with the Wallas working perfectly. This may be the last salt cruise for a while. Planning on a Columbia river trip soon and then 600 hour mechanicals. Another boating waypoint. Time for some electronic updating and trailer work.

Finally got around to closing off the transom splashwell with a full width filet table complete with rod holders for trolling. Still waiting on one item to complete the job. It's a huge improvement for us. Bending over into the splashwell to gut/filet fish was literally a pain!

My plan was to launch at Berkeley marina and head across SF Bay to McCovey Cove for the Giants – Cardinals game at ATT park. Launched the boat but the motor would not start. I spent a good deal of time trying to determine the problem but no luck, and all the time feeling the excitement of the day drain away. The motor worked fine yesterday when I tested it on the trailer, but no joy today. Had to go home to watch the game on TV and see all of those boaters enjoying hanging out in the cove. Poor me. Happily, the Giants are kicking butt 5 -0 as I write this in the middle of the 3nd inning.

Hi Jay,

Sorry you missed the boat ride and the OB wouldn't start. Hope it is something easy. Would have been a good day for a ride in the islands today as well.

SleepyC got new ground feet. 4 on the floor as they say. The trailer tires were still original. The bearings were good, but the tires were in need of retirement. USA made tires are a thing of the past. Being a PNE boater, and probably not out of range of a Les Schwab tire center for the next 5 years, I went with their top trailer tire.

Had a real concern about putting metal stems on them though. Was told they would be better for the pressures, but I'm not convinced about the resistance to corrosion. Hey, It's Schwabs, with their warranty so it's their problem if they don't work.

Some times it's the little things. I took the top off of my lighted compass to see why it didn't work. Turned out to be a loose wire. Same with the bilge pump. I have found that 50% of being able to fix something is having the nerve to open it up for a look.

Caught a break in the weather today. Sling-launched Christopher K. from Skyline Marina & took a ride to La Conner. Hope we get more good days between now & spring. Sure love living in Anacortes!

Trailered over to newport on thursday, launched at the port of toledo for fishing salmon on friday in the yaquina river. Caught 2 nice native coho in a 15 minute spurt, then wasted 8 hours trying for a chinook.

Put about 450 miles on the new treads since last Wednesday. On the way back from Portland, OR today, (Got to make sure you know which Portland, since now I know there are Portland's in 14 different states.), driving in lots of rain, some dry spots, and lots and lots of down leaves. Stopped for a few portraits of SleepyC in the fall colors and the rain.

Did a few miles of the Columbia and Willamette rivers while in Portland. Had some electronics serviced at Rogers Marina, there and again, pleased as punch with there first rate sales and service staff.

I'm basically in the same place and just getting my 22 Cruiser up and running. Fun times ahead, I think :thup

To stay on thread: I finished installing the new IMTRA lazarette hatches yesterday. Took me awhile as first I had to add about an inch of glass to one side (otherwise the fasteners were too close to the edges for comfort), and then I realized that it would be a lot easier to do my battery/electrical system upgrades with the hatch completely out, and then I realized that if I ever wanted to remove the stern cleats, overdrill/fill, and add backing plates it would be a lot easier while the batteries and hatches were out....

Just a boat project spiraling out of control folks, nothing special to see here

well its done and now I can say....its over lol it was a cool day the cabin stayed warm on its own the boat performed great. only thing that didnt work was the trim gauge...guess I'll have to figure that out...doesnt handle like a sailboat...goes a lot faster....and getting on and off reminds me of a Vitoria 18 or a canoe, lol
My wife liked it but at first was spooked by the tenderness...after she got settled in she enjoyed the short trip...what can I say...that makes it a keeper..ok so everyone that sees it keeps looking and says its cute...or salty
