SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Spent saturday getting everything back on the Sue-C. Then sunday trailered up to Portland and launched at Willamette Park for a run down the Willamette to Multnomah Channel then down the channel to St. Helens and Sand Island. Stopped at Coon Island for a little walk with the dog. Weather was good, not as good as saturday though. Covered close to 100 miles on about 11 gallons of fuel. Got passed going back up the Columbia by a 47' Bayliner. Couldn't help but wonder how much fuel he was going through at 20 knots.

Just "Dinking around" in the rain.. :sad
Moved the battery to a more accessible position. Now I'm working on a small removable table for the "Navigator". :wink Wish my bandsaw had more than a 9' "Throat". :crook

Thursday, Feb 14th. :love day. Weather report for the south sound. 0% chance of rain. 10% cloud cover, winds from the south at 2 mph, and a high temperature of 50 degrees. Wahoo! Think I will go boating :D .

Got the boat in the water around noon. Went out for an afternoon spin around Hat Island - just wanted to run the engine hard for a bit when the wife wasnt onboard telling me to slow down. Up to 27 knots. Stopped for a bit and dropped a fishing line to see if anything was bitting (wasn't for me.)
Headed back in to Everett, passed E~fishin~C heading out. Gave a wave. Did a quick spring cleaning on the boat. Left it in the water for Sunday and Monday cruising.
Cheers,
Tom

Finished installing a Lewmar V700 windlass on C-Cakes. Boy was that scary drilling huge holes in the deck   but all went well. It even goes up and down and there's no smoke from the battery. All in all it was a pretty easy task, easier than my fevered imagination had created. I even found a good and inexpensive source for Ancor wire and fittings. I paid $0.71/ft for 8 AWG compared to West Marine's $2.99 for the same product.

heres the website: http://shop.genuinedealz.com I would buy there again.

We hooked up both motors to the hose yesterday to see if everything was okay. The 90 was fine...tried the kicker and it didn't seem to want to pee. Called Sportcraft and they said the hole could be blocked. Steve got out the compressor, back blew it and it was fine! Whew :)

Caty, many, many times my 45's wouldn't pee either. I always kept a coat hanger in the "well" and with lifting the cover, could unhook the little rubber hoses, clean them out and push the coat hanger into the block to clear it. Seems little buggies love to crawl in there, particularly after you use the motor and its warm enough to keep them comfy but not so hot it cooks the little critters. :disgust

My daughter, dog and I took a ride up to Fernindina Beach yesterday the conditions were wonderful about 70 degrees on water an very light south breeze. My daughter took this picture with her cell phone into my rear view mirror. You can see the warning objects are smaller than they appear warning in the bottom of the pic. She gets better pics with her darn cell phone than I do my $700 Nikon.Me.jpg

This is and old sailing vessel that is apparently being used as a local sight seeing boat

Went for a quick overnighter at Langley. Had a nice dinner and some ice cream up in town. Read while the boys watched a movie until bedtime. First time there for the E~FISHIN~C crew, boy is that a tight little marina, I would avoid docking there in high winds. It was packed when we got there, just two slips left way at the back. But a fun spot to stay other than that. We fished alittle this morning and gave in after an hour, to come get the boat cleaned up. It was good to get out boating this weekend, it has been way too long.

Took a spin around Mercer Island . They're still building the gazillion dollar homes. Beautiful day, even the kicker got a good workout. Dotty's first time on the boat since the new knee just two months ago. Not even a cane! Had a nice chat with Chromer on Checkpoint II. Saw several of those "cigarette" type boats but no other C-Dory's beside Chromer.

I got to hug my C-Dory tonight... we made the 1200 mile round trip to Dallas (and it was dang cold "up north" ) to visit the Mom-in-law and help Joan's brother celebrate his 60th birthday over the last 4 days. We got back this evening with just enough light left to check on Wild Blue and sit inside for a moment.

Joan said, "Home, sweet home," when we pulled in... I was thinking, "Boat, sweet boat."

I completed two projects I've been wanting to do for a long time. The first was removing the radar arch, which I didn't do a good job of installing last spring, sealing the holes with MarineTex and bedding the feet of the radar arch in Sikaflex 291 fast cure. Finally finished that at dusk tonight. Word to the wise. If you ever use the Sikaflex 291 cartridge, make sure you have a good caulking gun. It was nearly impossible to squeeze any Sikaflex out of the tube, I guess I didn't eat my Wheaties today! :wink Other than that, I feel that my leaks through the roof are over. I'm fairly confident that this fix will do it. We'll see.

While waiting for the MarineTex to cure, I installed the quick and easy shore power system used by Sneaks and Flapbreaker. Very simple, very logical install. Now I don't have to worry if my battery is running low because I just plug it in. Plus, with the new fancy 15amp inlet, I can plug the cord into the inlet rather than attaching an extension cord and slipping it through the window. Thanks fellow C-Brats for the great ideas. Keep em coming.

Now maybe we'll be able to take the boat out for the first time in six months. Seattle is experiencing what I call the annual "Winter Respite" which usually happens at the end of January to mid-February. We get this really nice sunny break in the weather, very spring-like. People then begin to think that "Spring is just around the corner". WRONG, winter comes back with a vengeance for the next 6 weeks. But, it's always nice to look forward to, especially when it comes on a 3-day weekend. Can't complain about that.

Friday, 2/15, we enjoyed another of the unusual Feb. warm days. It only got to about 61F, tho' we'd had upper 60's & even 70's several times so far this mo. We took our lunch and went down river about 15 mi. to the Minnesott Beach Ferry landing area, where we anchored to eat and watch the ferry traffic across to Cherry Branch. We saw large (huge) flocks of ducks and terns, and some Brown Pelicans along the way, some in flight, some feeding on the water.
We didn't do anything much today, except I did add some pix of recent small projects to the "Knot Home" album.
We had wondered how vulnerable the (dual propane/electric) stove top cover might be to breakage or scratching. It's probably tempered, heat resistant glass, so maybe no much risk, but a nice cover would take care anyway.
Also, there's a lot of distance between the port side forward facing seat and the cover over the storage space, even long legs are left dangling, which isn't very comfortable for long. So, Pat now has a foldup footrest made of left over teak from the cockpit job.

On Sunday after the morning chill wore off we took R-Matey out for a run on Lake Whatcom. What a beautiful day for a boat ride. Amazing how many people visit with you at the dock and talk about the C-Dory. Even photographs taken by a much younger bunch of folks. Sure looking forward to seeing the islands again....

:D Took the Loose Nut to Whiskeytown again yesterday. Water was glass!! WOT 30.1 mph by GPS(s) (2). Yeah, we were flying. 5900 rpm on the Honda 90. Gotta love this boat. Tried fishing but fish did not co-operate. Now that we know more about what the boat will do, can't wait to get to salt water... :thup

:( Shasta Lake - checked our favorite ramp - like driving down into the Grand Canyon. Walking back up to the parking lot would be like running the stairwell in a 10 story hotel. These old bodies don't do that any more..Hope we get more water...soon! Great day.

Beautiful day today here in the PNW. Left Everett around 9:30 am. Decided to take Dakota to Seattle and back. Arrived in Elliott bay around noon.

February is the time for boating around here - no crowds, clear skies, crisp cool weather. Floated around a bit then fought the current all the way back to Everett. A few logs floating around, but seemed to miss most of them.

Cheers,
Tom

Took C-Cakes out to test the new windlass. It works!! Whaddya know. No Leaks around newly changed racor filter. All is well, that is until my starboard engine started acting up-racing-surging, sounding funny etc. unfortunately I wasn't in a safe place to stop and drift while I figured it out. Pulled into Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes and found a giant blue plastic trash bag wrapped around the starboard prop hub :x :x . Cleaned that up, crossed fingers and toes, put more gas in to replace that wasted getting to Cap Sante bag and all and drove back to Deception pass everything is fine once again. Good to be back on the water. The fever is building!
