SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

It wasn't today but the other day...
I took a land locked buddy fishing for Sturgeon. Only caught one, but it was a 44" keeper :thup . Only saw about 6 caught and not many on ropes. I attribute this to the fact that the Smelt are in the Cowlitz. May just be a pilot run as they are pretty small but limits are the norm for the last 3 days.

After fishing I got gas and noticed a peculiar odor... No, not beans and rice... My bearings had gone away  I was in total shock since they were freshly repacked last fall and faithfully greased (not over greased) every couple of trips. Barely made it to the parts store in time to buy new ones. The seal I got was the wrong one but I had what I needed to get me home.

I am thinking that my trailer might not be up to the task of towing my boat and I may have to put a beefier axel under it. What do you all think? Good/new bearings should last more than a couple of hundred miles and this is the second set since I bought the boat December 2002... :cry

Hmmm.... Let me see now..... Mechanical question ...Beats me.

I never have been able to figure these puppies out. If your seal is working and your using a system like Bearing Buddies, why would we ever have to put in grease once filled appropriately? It's got to have something to do with bearing heat, immersion and expansion.

I had grease on both sides of the boat after I got home from our maiden voyage to Sekiu. I attributed it to the brakes being set way to tight and consequent heat generated from a 120 mile trip. I took the trailer (E-Z Loader) to the manufacturer and convinced them to change out both wheel assembies complete. After the third trip out I noticed grease once again but not as bad. Now I live with wiping grease and trying to keep up with keeping the right amount of grease in the bearings. Not exactly a comforting process. I just bought new seals and a power winch and when I get them installed I think I will never ever immerse the bearings in water again. Looking forward to the input of others. Tim

not setting those bearings up to tight are you?. That adjustment nut may be large, but it doesn't require large torque, hand tight should about do it

Picked up the boat from Brooks Marine in Anacortes Friday. Seth installed the radar bracket on the arch predrilled for the Raymarine radome. I also had him install handrails inside the cabin. The port side has a full rail and the starboard side has a half rail (head banger if it went all the way forward). I installed the radome yesterday and took some pictures and posted them in cabin interiors.
I also stopped by EQ Marine just to bug Les. Saw DaNag and SeaShift sitting side by side. The boats are coming along but I bet not fast enough for Bill and Dave.

Looks good Fred....far cry from the "Little Buddy"...I see a spot on your overhead shelf that's just begging for a piece of velcro that your mp3 player would stick to :)

not to say that the 'Little Buddy" wasn't a bad boat...it's a neat boat....just saying the new craft is so much more boaterhomeish

Lets see, installed a stainless steel bow rail, modified existing teak grab rails, installed a remote vhf speaker and accessory jack, relocated both batteries to the starboard side and had a camper back installed.

I had a great day. I finally got the cork floor coated with both layers and was able to start and put the seat together. The seat box is installed but I still have to get the new table brackets in and check out the position of the cushion snaps to hold the back rest cushion to the table. With any luck at all I'll be able to get out of work early sometime this week and finish this project. Then on to number two on the list.

We went to the sportsman show and saw the usual stuff. Finished painting the kayak rack....boy those Friday Harbor yacht boys will be envious when we pull in there with our Beverly Hillbillies Yak Rack

Today Sunday Feb 8th we took the R-matey out for its first trip in 2004. Plan was to go out at least once every month but missed January due to some bad weather, work & a nasty sore throat/earache/cold, etc. Anyway we launched this morning 8:30 in Bellingham. Phoned the youngest son to let him know we'd pick him up at the dock in Anacortes to take him over to his house on Decatur Island to make sure the realtors have locked everything up after they've shown the house. On return trip dropped son off at Anacortes & arrived back in Bellingham by 2:30PM. An absolutely gorgeous day out there on the sound. Not that much boat traffic either. Brought the R-Matey home and gave her a nice bath before we took her back to the storage unit. Sure looking forward to when we can get out there again.

No, I don't think so. I only torqued them to 80#

Just kidding. I hand tighten them, spin the rotor and rock it back and forth, then hand tighten it again.... Then back it off just a touch.

Then I check the brakes and adjust the star wheel if necessary. I like about 2.5 spins. Always expect to see Vanna there asking if I want to buy a vowel but it never happens.

Maybe I shouldn't post after I worked all night. Hmmm , that sounds like whining, maybe I should take that to another thread

Next time I will do that Wade. I do need a contact number though. We may be neighbors soon, Robbin says she would like to put the Anita Marie at Twin Bridges. I have to get all the projects done but if they still have room Anacortes here we come.

Fred

I don't doubt that Twin Bridges is a fine place, but won't you miss the portability of the trailer? Or having to go up and retrieve the boat in Anacortes if you want to cruise somewhere else? Just asking...

Hi Pat, I have thought about this alot. Since we cruise the majority of our time in the San Juans we figured it was something to consider. On the way home last Friday with the boat I was almost in a major wreck on I-5 just north of Everett. This is not a reason but it did make me sit back and think about it. We will also put our trailer at Twin Bridges so it will be easy to get it on for any other outings. I think we will do it for 6 months and see how it works out.

Today I got my first real good look at the Lynn Marie's Barber Chair complete with cushions. I liked what I saw and even sat there looking out the window at the trees. Judy doesn't want to see the boat till everythings installed and the boats cleaned up looking like normal. She likes surprises but wants them to be complete. After I tried the cushions I installed the new stereo speakers but didn't get to the stereo itself. I did get another coat of finish on the wood work I've installed and did lay out the placement of a Nicro Day and Night solar powered exhaust vent.

All that's needed for the Barber Chair is to add a strip of material to the back of the forward seat back cushion so I can snap it into the table and add the hasp with clamping bolt that TyBoo made and that project will be complete. I like it. Thanks again Mike for all the thought you put into this design. C-Brats everywhere owe you big time as do their wifes.

Tim -

Sounds great, and I am sure it looks even better.

Those SS deals are in a plastic bg tied to the hitch latch lever on my trailer. If nobody is around the next time you're by, just grab 'em. If they won't work or you don't like the things, I can make more and even follow directions.

See ya up the river if not before.

Stuck a picture of the cheap, ugly, functional kayak rack in the B~C album. The cross bars stick out on the port side, they'll get trimmed back once I get a pair of kayaks up there and get a better idea on the required width.....maybe the pic will provide an idea or two for somebody
