So many C-Dorys in the San Juans

Up at Friday Harbor for the long weekend and couldn't believe how many C-Dories are here. During our 3 night stay we counted at least 10 boats with the majority of them being 22's and 25's.

Took a few trips to Eagle Point where we landed some fish and the C-Dorys were there too.

Finally, we went off to Roach Harbor where there were mostly big boats along with a few dingys which were probably more $$$ than our Tomcat. Still managed to meet some C-Brats there as well. javascript:emoticon(':teeth')

Goes to show that we are everywhere up here. The fishing, weather and conditions were superb. Hopefully everyone has a great time at the Sydney gathering next week. This is the closest we could get to that gathering.
 
When we were up there in the San Juans about 5-6 years ago, I thought I saw a lot of C-Dories, too, but on closer examination, a lot of them turned out to be Sea Sports, which look a lot like a C-Dory from 80 or more yards away.

Big difference is that they are inboards, and are deep-vees, which you can't see looking at them in the water. They also have reverse front windows and different window patterns evident on the cabin sides.

Many were tied up to moorings, indicating they were a very popular choice among the residents there.

I'd say they outnumbered C-Dories about 4 or 5 to 1!

The story here on this site was that Sea Sports were made by the same outfit that is now making C-Dories, but I that the Sea Sport line is not being manufactured right now, another casualty of the big recession.

the color, visor, and general hull shape have made think that many a sea sport were indeed C-Dorys, but upon closer review I was surprised more than once.

Sea Sports are pretty neat, their interiors even kinda remind me of C-Dorys. I had thought about getting one but glad I stuck with the CD. I had been told i thought that they were available as an OB vs the IB, but maybe not.

The moment I bought a C-Dory (well CC) I started noticing them everywhere. On road, in driveways, on the water. Perception is funny that way.

The reverse rake of the windshield always tipped the Sea Sports off for me but they sure do have a similar silhouette.

How was the fishing? Any Chinook?

The newer ones (2012 and up I think?) are offered with more OB options. I took a long hard look at them before buying my Venture. Sure the deeper V and higher running speed were quite appealing but then I looked at the GPH...even with the new 4 strokes they are burning 13-15+ GPH (on the 22/24's) just to run in the 20's! If you can find a diesel and swallow the price tag it is much more manageable at 9-12 GPH but those are all IB/OB's of course.

Still, its a far cry from my 6-7 GPH and am glad I went with it :teeth
