snap fastner

I need to replace a few of the snap fasteners on my C-22. These are the ones mounted to the hull that hold the snaps on the canvas. They are fixed with a rivet and nothing appears on the inside of the hull. I am reluctant to drill these out without understanding how these work and how I will replace the stud. Any have any advice?

Thanks,

If you see nothing on the inside of the hull, they were probably put there before the hull was finished, and it was later glassed over. There are several ways to attatch the male part of the snap. You can use Pop rivets--and I recommend stainless steel, rather than aluminum. Most are screwed in place. If you drill out the old one, then use the same size (probably 3/16") and then put a sealant (I would use 4200) on the hole before expanding the rivet.

Bruce,

Please send me a picture of the fastener and I will gladly give you my input on replacement. Take care and Merry Christmas to you and yours!

You can't beat the factory offer, but for some insight into what is available, try this Defender page: Canvas fasteners. Select the Dot fasteners and any others that look good, and you'll be better able to understand for what you're looking.

I have a photo of the bad snap, but I'm not able to attach it. I've been to the c-brats help, but I don't have the"add an attachment" option. I can send it in email
