Simplest Navigation for 16’ C-Dory

My boat has Eagle 500C Sea Charter navigation. The arrow keys don’t work that well and the depth finder is spotty. Wondering about a new system, something simple because all I need are depth and navigation. I’m not a fisherman. Any suggestions on equipment? Thank you.

The Navionics app works really well for navigation on an iPhone or iPad (not sure about Android). I use that almost exclusively, though I do have an old Garmin unit installed as well. There's a yearly subscription, but it's well worth the cost. You could also install a simple sounder like the Garmin Striker. They're cheap and work well enough. That would probably be the cheapest option (~$250).

I use a 12VDC laptop with Coastal Navigator and a Lowrance depth sounder.

For navigating in fog in the San Juan Islands, I use a Washington State Ferry Schedule. Ferries run at a reduced speed in fog and there is usually one going in your direction. :wink

I use the Navionics app on my IPhone. I put a IPhone holder on the dashboard and have a USB charging port below.
While I also have a Garmin depth sounder/plotter/knot meter, the the Navionics really is the best thing to use. Shows the depth lines, heading, and speed very accurately
