SHRIMPING 2009

Karl sorry for not getting back to you right away. I had to go and not catch shrimp yesterday. I got out late just a roger was leaving with 4 limits. I hit the same spots and only got a total of 25. I spent last night making up new bait that I hope will help.

back to halibut. I have only caught one so far. two years ago. last year I did not get to fish for them. a close spot that accounts for a lot of fish is Hein Bank close to the islands and well marked. There is a light on the north end of the bank. Fish on top of the bank and just drift off with the tide and bounce the bottom with you jig, bait or lure. I would think that salmon back would also have halibut and I have heard rumors of flatties inside the islands.

I just thought I would bring up that the two day season in the sound is not the same in the San Juan's. In area 7 you can shrimp Wednesday- Saturday, not Wednesday and Saturday, until the limit is reached. area 7 gets about a month or more some years. So id you are on your way up on Friday you could stop some where and drop a pot for a hour and try your luck. See you all there.

Hey gang! I went to my usual stomping grounds on the Hood Canal last Saturday and we had limits by the whistle. There were four onboard the Doghouse, and 4 others on another boat. It took all four hours to get our limits, and the other boat didn't do quite as well, but a good day none-the-less. I tried a new spot this year on the south side of Black Point - pretty productive. In years past, we've always dropped pots just outside of Pleasant Harbor. Based on the chatter on 68, it sounds like we chose the right spot. Interesting pulls though... Some pots would come up with 10 or 12, others would come up with close to 100. I couldn't figure out the logic, or perhaps lack-there-of. :?

We'll be out there again tomorrow. I'll have a bunch of greenhorns with me - taking the wife for the first time, as well as one other couple and their two kids (7 & 13). I'm anxious to get the young ones out there and introduce them to something new. We've gone crabbing with them numerous times but this is a little different with 250' pulls, all by hand. Not sure how much help I'll get... :wink

Anyway, give a holler if any other Brats are in the area. I'll be on 16/68.

Kev
