Shrimp pot puller suggestions for a 22 ft cruiser.

New owner here in Alaska. We would like some suggestions on the type of pot puller that lends itself to the Cruiser. We saw a davit system, but besides being expensive, it looked like a chore to mount. We want to never drill a hole that we absolutely do not need to drill. Any suggestions are welcome, especially from those in Alaska and especially those going out of Whittier. We would love to converse with other local owners.

For a 22 cruiser I dont think you can do better then a Ace line hauler. The work great, can be mounted on a scotty or cannon downrigger mount, fold up and store very nicely in a case. Uses the same electrical plug as a scotty or a cannon downrigger. I just think for a cruiser that is going to stay out or travel you just cant bet one.

We run a 22' Cruiser out of Whittier, and use the Ace Linehauler. We typically run our shrimp pots in 400 - 500', and never misses a beat. We have Scotty down rigger bases, and it mounts directly to them. It's also nice that it's a small unit, so it stows away nicely when you're not using it. Highly recommend the Ace!

The Ace puller is just right for us small-time shrimpers. But a word of caution: make sure that it's wired up with a fuse in the line near the battery and have the installer use the round, cylindrical plug-ins. When my puller was installed about 5 years ago, they used the smaller plug-in that is exposed to the damp salty air. It became so corroded over the last few years that I had to replace it with the newer style. Believe me, you don't want to be out there on the water with 5 shrimp pots and 600 feet of line and a pot puller that won't pull!

there is another brand out there that looks like the ace but with the motor mounted on the vertical and not the hoz. like the ace. Its cheaper and for a reason, its crap. sounds like a bad tranny grinding gears and then heats up and stops every two minutes. fished with one on another boat two years ago. i told the owner just to drop it over the side for all it was worth.
