Has anyone shipped a boat via AK State Ferry or other method? I'm looking to ship my 22' Cruiser to Petersburg from Whittier in the Spring. Will be shipping a pickup along with it. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

I've used AML to barge all kinds of things from Seattle to Petersburg, but I don't believe AML has any route between Whittier (or Anchorage, for that matter) and Petersburg. I don't know of any other scheduled private shipping possibilities. The ferry may be your only choice. I know the ferry system has been reducing service in S.E. in particular, but I think you can still get a ferry from Whittier to Juneau or Ketchikan and then transfer to one that goes to Petersburg. I have not shipped a boat to Petersburg myself, but it certainly can be done. I hope others with more information will chime in. Plan early and be prepared to pay. Good Luck!

I shipped my 22’ cruiser up from Seattle to Anchorage with Tote maritime I believe.
They were very professional and it was only on the sea for like 4 1/2 days. But man you pay for it. I think we paid almost 6k to get it here.
Luckily the seller and I agreed to split it.

I don't know if Tote delivers to Petersburg.

If you can drive your truck and boat to Haines or Skagway, you could get on the Ferry there and save yourself having to transfer to a second ferry. I think there is still ferry service between Skagway/Haines and Petersburg that does not require a transfer. You would probably save some on the fare, too, compared to taking a ferry out of Whittier, but it still won't be cheap!

Come to think of it, you may be able to get your stuff on an AML barge out of Haines/Skagway to Petersburg. I don't know, but that might be cheaper than the ferry. The practicality and logistics of your options may depend on whether you are going with your truck and boat, or just want to ship them without you.
