Hope someone buys the Seasport molds, I own one of the last ones built and it is a tradition up here in the islands.

I was surprised to see many more SeaSport boats than C-Dorys a couple of years ago when we cruised the San Juans a couple of years ago.

Seemed to be the most popular single boat manufacturer represented.

Unless they go at fire sale prices, I doubt if the market has changed enough for Triton to get back into the Sea Sport building business. I went back and read Jeff's posts (all 12 of them) and their business woes were caused by the downturn in the market (no surprises there).

Not much has changed, at least not in the boat business and their current success on their remaining lines is reason enough not to stretch what must be limited assets by expansion.

I wish them all success in their current endeavors!! Hope the gelcoat class goes well today, wish I could attend.

When I saw this posted on several other forums people were concerned about the other boat lines thats why I posted it. Take from it you want. It was not meant to bad mouth anyone or the company but when I first saw the post it worried me thats why I posted it. You guys should be concerned and not so defensive. I too hope Triton marine will survive and that one day SeaSport boats will be built Again but thats not what this post was for. Jeff and Scott thanks for your post I too wish I could attend the gelcoat class today. I support you guys and your company you build great boats and anyone that takes a close look at them can really tell the difference.

Look at the American auto industry. Oldsmobile and Saturn, gone. Pontiac and Mercury, heads on the chopping block as we speak.
I assume Skagit Orca and Osprey designs are as good as equivalent Sea Sport's. The Important thing being the build quality. Sea Sport certainly has the presence and name recognition. Hopefully potential Sea Sport buyers will take a serious look at Skagit Orca and Osprey. Or even that other brand, C-Dory...

Chester,

You're right, the Skagit Orca and Osprey are similar to the SeaSport. They're both deep-V hulls, though they apparently both can be inboard or outboard. I don't know what the difference is.

Can anybody explain the genesis of the Skagit Orca and Osprey boats?

Funny how thing go. Here the SeaSport was the hot setup, and now they're building Skagit Orca and Osprey.

C-Dory is another kind of boat, and one that suits us better.

In the meantime, if someone wants a real "project boat", now's your chance.... If I were there, I'd go just to watch the fun. Lots of other good stuff too.

You have to buy the whole thing as a lot, and the minimum bid is $250K. This from Jeff, yesterday at the factory. I think it is highly likely no one will bid at that price and the bank will be forced to offer it again at a lower price.

Did any C-brats attend the auction. Did any of you make a bid for the partially completed C-Dory boats or the SeaSport molds? It would be interesting to find out the results of this auction.
Best Regards,
Leo

I'm not sure what went on between Sea Sport and bank. It's my guess that the bank would have done better to have not pulled the rug out from under the Sea Sport folks so quickly. I bet the bank thought it was going come out better than it has so far. I was sitting in a restaurant near a marina in South Jersey a few weeks ago and over heard a discussion about I guy downsizing. He was thinking of selling his larger boat and buying a smaller less expensive boat. His friend said what are you crazy? If you gave the boat away it's still going to cost someone 5,000 dollars, winter storage, slip rental for the up coming year etc. Then they drifted on to what happens if he buys the smaller boat and is not happy with it? Now he will have two get rid off. I just smiled and kept quiet. I bet our friends might end up with those molds for a song. Que in the song "And the beat goes On" Sonny and Cher year? 1967 They say "The Beat Goes On is on Sonny Bono's tomb stone! amen :o
