seacock during reynolds ownership

I am the new owner of a C Dory 25 built in 2006 when the Reynolds family owned and operated the business. There is a factory installed seacock under the cabin step . I have communicated with the current factory and am satisfied that their thru hull procedures are very sound.

Scott B. was unable to tell me how the previous owners of the factory did their thru hulls. Has anyone taken out one of the earlier sea cocks and can you tell me how it was installed. Tks great site. slowtrot

Congrats on your new boat!

I can't give you an answer from the C-Dory history perspective, but if you were to post some overall and close-up photos of the seacock/hoses, I'd be happy to comment on what I do see.

One note is that I don't believe I've read of any instances of previous C-Dory builders closing out the core when making hardware installations (if the seacock in question is in a cored area - which photos could help determine).

Also, "C-Change" recently started a thread about a seacock in a new-to-them 25, and their are detailed photos and discussion, so searching/finding that thread may give you some good info.

Personally, regardless of when it was built, I'd put the boat on the trailer, pull the seacock off, and under cut and re-seal the core with epoxy as has been described in many posts on this site. Then replace it with some good sealant and you won't have to worry about it. Pulling it out is the only way to know what's really there and it doesn't take that long to do. The total working time to fix this problem in the bet way is around 1-2 hours (not counting the time for the epoxy to dry).
