Sea Tow's Automated Radio Check Service

In areas across the country, Sea Tow is offering boaters a new way to conduct radio checks that doesn't require help from other boaters or watch standers. To use Sea Tow's free Automated Radio Check service, simply tune your VHF radio to the appropriate channel for your location and conduct a radio check as you typically would. Upon releasing your radio's microphone, the system will play an automated message and relay your transmission back to you, thereby letting you know that boaters can hear you loud and clear.

I saw that on Panbo and it sounds like a great idea. Just waiting for the service locally here but in the meantime it would be great to hear from others with coverage how well it works.

Very cool , I just filled out a form to request info on hosting a transmitter in my area. I have no idea of I can afford the equipment or what the requirements are but maybe I can get a local business to help out.

We've had it here in the San Diego area for a year or so I think. I tried it. You get to listen to a little commercial message and then a recording of what you transmitted so you can hear what you sound like. It works, but if it comes back a little quiet, you don't know if it's your transmission that was quiet, or their record/transmit gain, or what. Still, it's something.

Thank heavens for the commercial message. There were a few moments of the day where advertising was lacking. I'm glad to see people are working hard to make sure we don't suffer a single moment without the comforting feeling of someone trying to sell us something.

Actually, the commercial's pretty quick, although I haven't tried it in about a year.

You have to pay for it some way. Its like the weather message on channel 4 here. Its provided by wells fargo bank. Happy to see that they provide such a great service for free and a 5 second message.

Tom,

Sure looks like we need to add that service to the "upper left coast". According to that web site only 2 on our side and they are a bit out of range  keep us up on what you get back and the possibilities of a PNW auto site in the neighborhood.

Great Idea!
However, when I was on patrol with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, I tried both channels for my area and neither one worked.

Reported results but no change.
