Anybody know of a good place to launch the boat and leave the truck and trailer for 5 days? Looking around Sarasota area.

We launched at Ken Thompson park ramps, has water (bring your own hose for trailer and engine flush), 5 concrete ramps but south end shallow in Dec, try for high tides. A 2012 Active Captain entry states overnight parking is OK, but it was not permitted last time we were there in 2014 or 2015. I had called around to marinas and storage lots, none were interested in rig storage but finally one owner referred me to her employee who had a spot in his front yard 10 miles inland for the trailer for $8/night for a few weeks.

We stayed at Moorings Longboat Key. Very nice, but don’t forget to bring your wallet. Marina has its own heated pool and hot tub, courtesy van to the beach hotels and pools, and St Armands Circle, etc...5 star resort.

If you are not a 5-star type Brat, consider instead starting at Anclote River park ramps and working south.

Or start at Burnt Store Marina, deep new ramp and ask re rig storage, they have it for an annual Ranger/Cutwater gathering, and work north. Pool is not for transients.

We stay a lot at Calusa Island marina, has rig storage (in grass for trailer, in lot for truck) at the edge of the Everglades. However, you will have to divert into the Gulf around Naples to cruise north. Not for careful boaters in a December North artic blast. They only last a few days, but 3 out of your 5 days would be a bummer.

Boating in the Everglades now requires an easy online certification. There might not be any cell or VHF radio coverage, EPIRB advised.

None of these rig storage options are free. I happily defer to the local expertise of James on Molly Brown and other locals for other options. Esp if I am missing some 6-star marinas!

Happy researching, and hope this is helpful!

It is tough for storage around here because all the ramps are free and public. Try calling Casey Key Marina in Osprey. I don’t know if they do boat storage, but if they do, it is right across the street from the Blackburn ramp (which is very nice).

Laishley Park in Punta Gorda has a decent ramp. Storage can be had at Crystal Cay Marine 3 miles inland or at my place. Being retired I can assist with transport.

We have left our rig at the Sarasota boat ramp (US41 and 10th st) for multiple days with no issues. The Sarasota area is very busy as opposed to the tranquility of Charlotte Harbor. Once long ago, returning from a multiple day trip to the Sarasota area, as we rounded Gasparilla Sound into our home waters we questioned why we bothered to go. We tend to prefer "wilder" places. One Sea Tow captain to another..."you know... that boat that's always backed up to the mangroves"... 8)
