Roof Top Cargo Carrier

Has anyone installed a roof top carrier on their roof and if so what kind and how did you attach it?

I was looking at the c-dory.com site and enjoying the magnificent Alaskan wildlife photos by Mr. Souders and then noticed the roof top cargo carrier aboard his C-Dorry 22, the C-Sick. It looks low profile, just under the radar field of view and perfect for adding waterproof storage to an otherwise unused area of space (provided something like an AC unit isn't already there). Such extra storage room would be ideal to hold necessary but seldom used items that take up valuable space like life jackets, etc.

Here is the link to the artic article and some pictures: https://www.c-dory.com/2019/04/29/c-dory-goes-arctic/

I did a quick Google search and Sears has a Thule carrier (pictures below) for $380 in an attractive platinum color, 16 cu ft of storage, ergonomic, streamlined, lockable and can be opened from the sides.

I'm sure there are other carriers out there if anyone has a recommendation or some pictures of their boats with a carrier.

I don't have a roof top box, but I do store my kayaks up there. I have a Yakima Rack attached to the grab rails on the roof. This would allow you to attach a box up there. The kayaks also have lots of storage in them and are more fun to paddle than a roof box would be. I would not store my life jackets up there. They should be on your body or close at hand.

I live in the south. Damned a/c unit gets in the way

I've had them on my land vehicles, in the past, and they tended to leak.

I have a Yakima rack on my CD-22 but no box. I have a high top and had to use towers (by Yakima) to get the cross bars above the top. Also had to bend the gutter clamps sightly to get them on the roof rails. Also had to bend (in a vise) the wrench that tightens the towers and cross bars to the gutter clamp to get around the high top. Not a big deal just some futzing to do; very happy with the rack.

I will take some and post them. It will be a couple of days as I have to set up a photo album which I should have done years ago.
