Rocket Launchers and Down Riggers

One thing I will say is this is the place to check before you buy. All you guys are great, I think im going to go with the Scotty 1106 as Rick said he has gunnel mounted rod holders on the Amigo. He also has some custom made rack he had built for the roof hes going to send me pictures of. Says he paid $1800 for it so it would hold crab pots, raft ect. must be some rack. Will just have to wait and see as I have a metal fab guy in Fresno that can build anything for a decent price. hell for $1800 I think I could get a full roll cage lol. The first step is getting our banks and the DMV to cooperate and get the paperwork together so we can make the exchange. I cant believe I have to make an appointment with my credit union to draw out my own money, that one has me considering a new financial institution. But Salmon opens here April 1 and I hope to be out there draggin bait, droppin off a few crab pots and diving for Abalone. I have a bag of 2 lb lead balls and releases that have always worked on the charter boats and until I can get my new downriggers mounted I will be donating lead. Oh and here in the peoples republic of Kalifornia; the state fisheries board may close our salmon season from the Oregon border to mexico, they are scheduled to make there final decision April 7th. So we may have a one week Salmon season here......... :amgry

Will be checkin out your boat picks and deciding on what kind of Radar arch / rod holder / raft storage set up I will be going with. Thank you all for all you input, everyone is greatly appreciated.

Tight lines and smooth seas to you all....... :thup :smiled

I see that you are from sack of tamatos so dont forget the striper fishing coming up. easter weekend is always a good time to start. go buy some big broken back rapalas and flat line them behind the boat a 100ft close to rip rap shore lines. I like north of sac close to where the feather dumps in.

I have been fishing the Sac for many years, in fact there is a hole known as Dougs hole south of where you speak of at the mouth of the feather, perhaps we can get together and exhange fishing methods

I live in marysville washington now and as much as I miss striper thats a long way just or fishing. Maybe the next time I go visit the in-laws we can get together and fish.

Tom,
"a long way just for fishing"--that is the best reason to go a long way. If you want to visit the in-laws have them come to you. LOL

ken if they came here then i would not get to striper fish once every two years. we need to start a striper interduction program here in the sound. the snohomish delta would be perfect for them.. and its close to my house.

Hi Les Lampman,

Joe Law here with the "Sundog" -- I hope all is well for you and your shop.

I was wondering if I could order a tall Radar arch from you and have it shipped to me here in Anchorage.

Could you let me know?

Thanks,

Joe

Just a plug here for the Penn Fathom-Master 625 _manual_ downrigger. The two I have on the Buckin Ho I had on my previous boat. They are 11 years old, with one 400' stainless steel cable change, and still going strong. Very compact and the optional rod holders are worthwhile getting and perfectly positioned for downrigger fishing (well-positioned releases). Since I don't have a Wallas, I need something to fire up the internal heater and cranking 12-16 lbs. up from the depths with these babies does the trick.

falco as far a manuals downriggers go penn are the best made. I just loved the clutch systems on them. and a vertical reel can not be beat for a manual down rigger.

Hello Hammerhead

I have a pair of Scotty 1116 pro pack downriggers on my boat. They are mounted on the sides allmost two feet back from the stern.I have never had a problem with them in two years besides a blown fuse when cable got wrapped around boom in rough seas.Once you use electric downriggers you will never go back to manuals or lead weights.Nothing wrong with manuals at all they work well .I usually have two or three newbies on board on fishing trips and I usually play captain and deck hand for four rods and the electric down riggers makes my life so much easier .Downriggers are also so nice for using light tackle. No more $2.50 lead weights to lose every time you get a strike.$20.00+ a day in lead adds up quickly toward purchase of downriggers.
I also have a Ace Line Hauler crab trap puller that mounts to Scotty downrigger base and plugs into the same outlet downriggers do.Makes it so convienant,no more wiring to run or holes to drill.
Hammerhead give me a call if you want to look at my downriggers on my boat.I am in Sac area also.It is not a C-Dory but you can get ideas on how they work and how they mount.
