Repowered with an ETEC!

Just repowered with a 50HP ETEC! The 16 Cruiser POPS out of the water now. Top end is a couple of miles faster now at 30 mph (GPS). Not that I run that fast regularly.

Loving it so far. Just as quiet as the Honda BF 50, but the tone is different and there is less cabin noise. Most important to the wife is that it is white and matches the boat. Got to have your priorities!

Capt. C - You must have won a jackpot at the Beau Rivage if you replaced a Honda 50 with another 50 HP engine.... Or was it an old carb model that was showing it's "wear"?

Several things made the discission for repowering. Carbs showing wear/problems from ethanol issues (even though the motor has been run weekly since I got it). Electrical issues due to previous owner keeping the vessel in a covered slip without a isolator switch on the battery (electrolysis damage).

Same problem had caused some corrosion on the tilt trim. Obviously I installed a battery selector switch once I got the boat, even installed one on the ground side for overkill. It is too easy, and cheap, to prevent electrolysis damage, even if it is overkill. Nothing I could not have repaired, but I just wasn't interested in throwing money at a 1998 Motor.

There was $750.00 difference from the Yamaha 4 stroke, and $350.00 from another Honda 4 stroke. Weight differences were negligable. My neighbor works with the MS Department of Marine Resources, he put me in touch with their mechanic and I got the chance to talk motors with him. His opinion was that ETEC's have been essentially problem free for them as compared to other manufactures. They put a lot of hours on a lot of vessels. I also did my own personal research before I was willing to cough up an extra $750.00
