Replacement LED Cabin Lights

Hello to all.

Have any of you found any truly bright replacement LED cabin lights? I am not looking for replacement fixtures, not LED bulbs to fit the existing fixtures. Dual color (red LED) would be ideal.

Any ideas?

I'm a bit confused by your request. You write that you are not looking for fixtures and not looking for LED bulbs. I'm sure that you mistyped something here. If you are looking for bulbs, try Sensibulbs from Sailors Solutions. We've been running them in Valkyrie for two years now and love them.

Not exactly what you are asking about, but I found great lights at Costco. For $25, you can get two rechargeable LED lights. They plug into 120AC to recharge (charger is internal) and stay lit forever. Bright enough to read by. I put velcro on their backs and where I'll use them, cabin and V berth, and move them. They have been terrific. Not a replacement, more as a supplement to the incandescent bulbs.

Sorry, I was not clear. I meant that I am not looking for replacement bulbs for the existing fixtures, but rather new LED fixtures and bulbs.

In case someone else is interested in just replacement bulbs (for the cabin fixtures) I can report that these are a direct replacement and offer bright, WHITE illumination AND energy savings for a reasonable price.

Somewhere there is (was ?) a thread where we thrashed this out but I couldn't find it.
 
try www.sailorssolutins.com they have replacement led lights to fit into existing light fixtres or new fixtures with reostats with a switch for red or white light.

I have Sensibulbs that I bought from Sailor Solutions. They fit in the existing fixtures, are plenty bright, and have a color that matches incandescent bulbs fairly closely. I don't have any of my own measurements in terms of power consumption, but they claim the Sensibulb uses 20 percent of the power of an incandescent bulb and I have no reason to doubt that. They aren't cheap, but with only four needed for the 22 it's not a terribly costly upgrade.

What bulbs does the CD22 use? The CD25 cabin lights use a 1004 bulb, which is a two contact bulb, these would not work in our fixtures...I do like the idea, and the price of these seems quite a bit better than the others...

You can always take out the socket and solder one of the pc boards with the multiple leds, or you can just break the glass and solder the array onto your socket.
 
Oops. Be careful of the year of your boat. I ordered four of the bulbs Adeline recommended and I now see that my 2008 boat uses the 1004 bulb and not whatever was in the older boats. There goes $52 and the bulbs aren't even here yet.

Perhaps I can find the single contact sockets and solder them in. The existing sockets just snap into little plastic clips. With a little luck I can adapt things.

I should have gone out to the boat and looked, but the wording in the original post said the subject was gone over in another thread and the bulbs were sure to fit. I didn't stop to think about production changes. The light fixtures looked pretty generic.

I see that vendor, jbillings1 on ebay, sells the 1004 version of that bulb. I'll see if I can exchange them. I like the looks of the bulb with LEDs all around instead of just pointing off the end, like some LED conversions. It should work better in our cabin fixtures. Also, the light is supposed to be a warm white.

If they're not easy to exchange, I think it might not be too hard to do some adapting with what I bought by mistake. The existing cylindrical sockets are held in the fixtures by plastic C shaped clamps which would hold something else I might want to stick in there, or maybe just the new bulbs if I decide to solder the wires directly to them, which should be OK consider I shouldn't ever have to replace the bulbs.

Jeff, a quick search on eBay did not turn up the 1004 compatible LEDs from a seller named jbillings1 (it did turn up lots of other stuff). Can you post a link to this specific seller's 1004 LED offering? Thanks!

Thanks, Jody, got it. Is there one particular model LED you would recommend from your link? This might be the way to go, one of my fixtures seems defective anyway, as it does not work when I put a new 1004 in it even though the multimeter shows it is getting 12 volts to it, so removing the socket is definitely an option here.

Hi Brats,

A few years ago I started a similar thread after going through the same frustrations that many of you are now experiencing with getting a bulb that doesn't fit/work. I first tried superbrightleds and had little luck. That is why I wound up buying from sailorsolutions.com and was very happy with both their product and service. In fact, at the time I mentioned the C-Brats and possible interest from other C-Dory owners. The owner, Nick, even extended a discount to anyone mentioning the C-Brats at time of order. I'm not sure if that is still in effect, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Once again, the lights are bright and their service is very good.

He's being very nice about exchanging the bulbs for me. It will take a little while for the round trip shipping and then I can report on how they work out.

While I have your attention I feel compelled (as in "I just can't stop myself") to say something about the large red "shouting" font in your posts. I can't decide what to say or how to say it, so I'm just typing what I'm thinking because it bothers me. That's all I'm saying. Just take it as one person's vote.

Anyway, as soon as I get the bulbs and make sure they fit and the light is nice, etc. I'll report back here.

I ordered one of these bulbs: 1004 LRD Bulb. $15 and free shipping. Will let you'all know how it works next week.

Actually we use the cabin lights very little, but I hope this is a brighter light over the sink for Judy.
