Renting a C-Dory

Heres the question. Would be nice to rent a C-Dory to see if I like it before taking $60-80K out of my bank or getting a loan for the boat tax breaks.

Lookng for feedback on this. I can travel east, or west if anyone knows how I could do this.

Ask to see if anyone will be willing to take you for a ride. I would if I had not "aged out" of C Dorys. As I understand, you are interested in a 22. They can be purchased for less than $60 to 80K.

For the most part a C Dory boat is a very personal item, sort of like renting out your wife... There was a Venture 26 leased for 6 months to an Australian to do the loop. I believe there was one in a charter fleet at one time in Anacortes, Wa.

You are in heartland America, and there are a number of C Dorys not far from where you live. But it is getting a little late in the season and some are being put up for the winter, and marinas are closing down.

Anyone want to give "Larry" a ride?

I’m is SW Washington so probably irrelevant but I would take you out in my 22. I think it may be hard to get someone to rent out their boat because I find it unlikely insurance would pay out if something were to go wrong? Does anybody have any input on this?

Your location says “Midwest”. Can you be more specific? Although the recent days have been very summer like, this is probably going to end soon. Days for good outing are going to get more and more limited the further north you are.

Not sure you’ll get takers to rent you their C-Dory if you don’t have experience handling one.

Middle of Iowa. I have experience with a 242LS Formula. I do not necessarily want to rent an individuals boat. Heck I would notm rent mine out either.

Your too kind, I would take you up on it and buy you a steak. However, I am about 1700 miles away and I don't own a Leer Jet! :)
 
I have handled the insurance, by either getting a rider on my policy--and charging the renter, or telling the rentor to show proof my item was covered by their insurance, or a separate policy. I used this on the RV I was renting as a business, and the couple of times I let trusted people use my boats.
