Hi all, I'm new to C brats as I just bought my first C Dory 25, (2003), New to me anyway. It does not have a refrigerator in it, but has the space for one under the seat. Could anyone tell me what may be the right size and best refrigerator, and does the 25 cruiser come pre wired to except it? I pick the boat up in a couple weeks and it isn't here yet in Pittsburgh.
Thanks
Jeff

Norcold DE-0040 was the unit that came with our 2005 25 cruiser.

Here is a very similar current example:

But, some folks have removed them or elected to use a more efficient and better quality unit installed in the same cabinet or elsewhere. Do a search for refrigerator at the upper left of this site and you should find lots of info.

Welcome to the group Jeff. It's good to get another east coaster on here. We gotta keep these PNW guys in check!

Jeff, as far as I know, all C-Dorys came with a refrig. Judy wanted a refrig, so that was a plus. What is different is that yours is a 2003, of which I do not know.

You can check when you get it by looking under the helm seat. If it's wired for a refrig, there will be a 110 outlet and a 12 volt line, since they were 110vac/12vdc. I doubt if anybody would remove both, but they're are easy to install

All of those small refrigs use a Chinese compressor which, on Journey On was noisy. I tied things down and added insulation. We've run ours for 10 years now. I like cold beer.

Welcome!

As Aurelia mentioned, there is a good selection of quality/efficient compressor refrigerators these days - either built in or "cooler shaped." Quite a few have the well-regarded Danfoss compressors.

I have bought one (for RV not C-Dory) from Sure Marine in Seattle. They are not only good folks with experience and knowledge, but they also have a good website (and they ship!). I particularly like their size comparison tool, which shows all the brands they carry (which include Vitrifrigo, Isotherm, Nova Kool, and Norcold) ranked by size. So if you have a certain sized "hole" it makes it easy to shop all the brands at once instead of clicking back and forth and trying t keep them straight.

I know the Vitrifrigos use the Danfoss BD35 (if getting an under bench size) or the BD50 (larger models), and I believe the Isotherms do too. I can't remember about the Nova Kool or the Norcold, but the folks at Sure knew when I was asking about them. I ended up with a Vitrifrigo because it fit the space best, had a good compressor, had a remote compressor option, and I liked the freezer compartment size better than the equivalent other brands (but they are also great units - I was open to a Nova Kool, Isotherm, or Vitrifrigo).

Congrats on your new 25! :gift (I have a 2002 22 Cruiser.)

I'm definitely going to check out Sure Marine. I like the idea of being able to just put the size hole in and cross reference all to that size. Thanks for your time and info.
