Recommendations for Somebody to Work on 1991 Johnson 40

Our old Johnson 40 2 stroke runs strong, but it seems like the electric tilt is starting to fail. Also, probably should have it serviced, the impeller has never been changed out in 21 years as far as I know (but it has very low engine hours). Any recommendation for somebody in the PNW to service an old Johnson 3 stroke?

Thanks!

I've heard of 2, I've heard of 4...but 3 ????

That Pat Anderson, he's just gotta be different!

Maybe it's a two stroke that's gotta be stroked to start? That makes three.. :crook

Pat, I'd call Les Lampmann.

Pat,

Many people in my area think highly of "Tom's Outboard" in Olympia. My personal experience with their service is limited, but I was happy with the work they did for me on a Honda kicker. It's a small shop, but they have been a Johnson dealer for many years, and I know they enjoy a good reputation with old timers down here (by God, I believe I may be classified as one myself!).

It would be a bit of a trek for you, but it might be worth a phone call to Tom - he seems like a nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Here's a link http://tomsoutboard.com/about.html

I bought trailer parts at Toms Outboards and they seemed like a very competent organization. Certainly knew what I was talking about on the EZ loader trailer, which was a change.

I've had 2 strokes that 4 stroked, but I want to know how you get that odd stroke in.

It's 3 strokes and your out, right?

Or, maybe its that 4 stroke that needs the fixin

Bet Pat is getting a plan.

C-J's marine in Marysville WA works on Johnson/Evinrude and Mercury motors.

there Phone # is 360 658 6370

Check with West Coast Marine in Bellingham. Larry (Gator) Walton works on our 91 Johnson 70hp and he is by far the best we have found. Their old number was 360 6768020, they have moved within the last year to a new shop. www.wcmarine.us Tom

I ran across a fellow near Orting who works out of his garage. I talked with him for about an hour and came away impressed by his knowledge of motors of any variety. He charges $45 an hour which is what attracted me in the first place. Tom's in Olympia is always good. He's done right by me and stands behind his work. PM me for the phone number of the guy who works out of his garage if you are interested.

Doug
